Introduction
The HD05 has been a light I’ve found interesting since it was first announced. The HD02 always felt a bit large and heavy to me, but the HD05, with its more compact dimensions and red light instead of a laser, looked very promising. Additionally, the SFT70.2 in a small OP reflector promised cool white light, but with a good beam profile and no green tint.

Package Contents and Impressions
The light arrives in a surprisingly slim white box. As with many Wurkkos lights, it features a picture of the light and all the key data.

In addition to the light and the battery, the package includes a lanyard, two spare O-rings, a short USB-C-to-C cable, and a multilingual manual.

The light features a modern, futuristic design in grey with black accents. You’d need a magnifying glass to find any machining flaws:

The side light rattles minimally against the body when tapped. However, it stays quiet when shaking the light, unless you put a lot of energy into it. Also, the steel ball used as the detent for the side light is harder than the anodization and leaves marks. The closure still functions perfectly, so it seems to be purely cosmetic.
On the front, you’ll find three LEDs – a cool white SFT70.2, a Deep Red LED (likely an SST10DR), and a 365nm UV LED (likely a Luminus SST-08-UV). The reflector for the SFT70.2 is relatively shallow and heavily textured, while the other two are narrow and smooth.

The light is rechargeable via USB-C. The port is reasonably recessed, accepts all my USB-C cables without complaint, and is sealed by a flush-fitting rubber plug. There is an LED in the switch that indicates the charging process and status.



The mentioned switch is a combination of a 3-position rotary dial (UV, White, and Red) and a push button. The latter has a good tactile click and operates flawlessly.


I mentioned the side light earlier, and I’d like to take a closer look at it now. The wing integrates well into the body when closed. When open, it can be moved and even rotated with gentle pressure! This works fantastically and is extremely useful.

Furthermore, there is a tripod socket in the tailcap, allowing the light to be used stably as a desk lamp.

My scale showed 236g for the light.
I measured the dimensions at 129x31x37mm.
Carrying Options
Lanyard: A basic lanyard is included and can be easily attached to the lanyard hole at the tail.
Clip: The clip isn’t quite deep carry, but it’s nice and wide, has no sharp edges, and offers a good contact patch on the body. Plus, it’s quite sturdy.

Magnet: If you bring the tail of the light near metal, it docks with a satisfying “thwack.” Great, strong magnet!
(Jacket)pocket: The light is a bit large and heavy for a pants pocket, but still okay thanks to the good clip. It carries well and unobtrusively in a jacket pocket
UI (Bedienung)

In advance: If you prefer stepped UIs, you won’t be happy here, as there are none. It’s ramping only – except for UV.
The basic operating mode is selected via the rotary switch.
Lockout: In all positions, the light can be locked and unlocked with 4 clicks. When unlocking, the light starts at the memorized level.
UV:
1 click for on/off.
hold to cycle between High and Low.
2 or 3 clicks also turn the light on.
White:
1 click for on/off with memory.
2 clicks activate the highest brightness, whether on or off.
3 clicks for strobe
hold from off – lowest brightness, from on – ramping.
Red:
1 click for on/off with memory.
2 clicks activate the highest brightness, whether on or off.
3 clicks for beacon.

The wing light starts at the last used brightness and color temperature when unfolded and is controlled via the button. As long as the wing is open, the button exclusively controls it.
The activation of the wing works magnetically; if you hold a magnet to the closure side of the wing, it turns off.
The controls are quite simple
1 click: on/off
halten: from off activates the lowest brightness, from on changes brightness via ramping. Releasing and holding again changes the direction.
2 clicks: for maximum brightness
1 click, then click and hold: changes the color temperature (CCT). The direction changes each time.

Beam Profile and Measurements
The beam consists of a large, soft-bleeding spot and a uniform spill, which is bounded by the crenulated bezel.
The red light produces a massive spot with almost no spill. The beam is a bit “dirty,” but this disappears after about 1m.
The UV light is unfiltered. The spot is a bit uneven, surrounded by a darker area, followed by another ring. As with the red light, this doesn’t interfere with actual use; as long as you don’t need perfectly uniform UV light at point-blank range, you won’t have a problem.

The performance looks good, nothing to complain about, it’s perfectly regulated. 1000 lumens sustained is roughly what you’d expect for this size.


The regulation for the red light is also flawless.

I measured the throw at turn on with 382m, at 30s 338m. With a spec of 335m, I’d call that spot on!

Flicker testing with Opple Light Master III was unremarkable.
The beam of the side light is uniform and appears surprisingly bright. Warm white and cool white do not differ visibly in brightness. Because the wing is so thin, I was curious how the temperatures would behave cooled vs. uncooled. Performance suffers less than expected when uncooled. However, the wing does get quite warm, though the design seems well-thought-out.

Overall, I’d say the HD05 has good charging behavior, even if the current isn’t kept constant during the CC phase. This could be temperature-related or by design – either way, I don’t see it as problematic. The CV phase and the termination of the charging process look normal.

I also measured the battery capacity: 5083mAh, so the specs are fully met.
Summary
I didn’t actually expect it, but I really like this light. It feels great in the hand, the red and UV lights are nice additions, and the main light doesn’t have any major flaws – with the SFT70.2, even cool white is perfectly fine.
The wing really impressed me. Combined with the strong magnet, you can always find a good angle; with a small tripod, it makes for a fantastic desk light. You have to provoke the minimal rattling of the wing when closed, so it never bothered me.
All this, combined with the large battery, integrated charging, and still somewhat compact dimensions, makes the HD05 a versatile everyday companion. Mine will definitely have a permanent spot in my bag, especially during vacations.
