[Review] Wurkkos TS10 SG – mini thrower with SFT-25R

With this little review I wish you a merry Christmas! Have fun, but don’t overdo it with the lights. The tree should not start to burn at any time!

When the Wurkkos TS10 was released in mid-2022, only few might have imagined what a great success this flashlight would become. Compact, playful, great light and also affordable. Over time, different colors and materials such as titanium, brass and copper were added. Recently, a version of this flashlight optimized for throw has been launched with the suffix “SG”.

You can find the German version of this review on my website: SammysHP Blog › Wurkkos TS10 SG

I have received the flashlight as a present from the manufacturer, thank you very much!

Overview of hardware

The flashlight comes in a sturdy cardboard box. I immediately put the clip aside as I prefer a different shape (there are various discussions on the Internet about suitable alternatives).

  • Wurkkos 14500 Li-ion battery with 900 mAh (unprotected, button-top, 4.00 V at arrival)
  • Lanyard
  • Clip
  • 2x replacement o-ring
  • Manual

As Anduril is extremely complex, I would describe the supplied manual as a quick start guide. If you want to use more than the basic functions, it makes sense to take a look at the official manual.

On the outside, the TS10 SG is mostly identical to the regular Wurkkos TS10 – apart from the special Christmas design. The aluminum version in particular is incredibly light (but perhaps we will see the TS10 SG in other materials at some point).

Length: 72.2 mm
Diameter (head): 21.0 mm
Diameter (battery tube): 18.1 mm
Diameter (tailcap): 21.4 mm
Weight (without battery): 30.1 g
Weight (14500 battery): 18.4 g
Weight (total): 48.5 g

In the Christmas edition, snowflakes of different shapes and sizes have been laser-engraved all around the red anodization of the flashlight.

The large button is also anodized red. If you already own other versions of the TS10, you can also swap parts here. The button was improved a few months ago. Since then, it has short and precise feel with a nice click. Around 950 g are required for actuation.

The differences to the classic TS10 are of course most obvious at the front end. More details about that part later.

As with all TS10, the head of the flashlight is unscrewed to change the battery, not the (glued) tailcap. The battery tube has a double-walled design: While the inner tube carries the power, the outer tube is responsible for the signal from the button to the driver.

The three pads to update the firmware with the corresponding adapter are clearly visible on the driver.

User interface

The TS10 runs Anduril. By now you should all be familiar with it. Otherwise (or if you need further help), I suggest to read the official manual or take a look at the UI diagram. And if you are stil lost, just ask here in the forum.

I got my TS10 SG with version 0713-2023-07-29, which I immediately updated to a custom version.

Illumination

As beautiful as the light of the classic TS10 was with its nice color and high CRI, throw was never its strong point. It was fantastic at close range, but as an EDC flashlight the brightness or throw was often not sufficient for me.

It is difficult or even impossible to run such a small flashlight with even higher brightness, as it is not able to dissipate the heat. So there’s just one way, by better focus the light. There were some early mods in which the three LEDs were replaced with a single one in a reflector or TIR. However, a longer bezel was always necessary due to the size of the optics.

Wurkkos has found a different solution: a particularly thin Fresnel TIR optic with many small lenses. A Luminus SFT-25R is also used, which is easy to focus due to its small and round LES.

This combination produces a fairly compact spot with a diffuse edge. Due to the optics, some irregularities can be seen in the spill. In practice, however, these are hardly noticeable.

The three RGB aux LEDs create an interesting effect thanks to the optics. However, the colors mix again when you look directly into the flashlight.

Outdoors the TS10 SG can show its power. The difference to the regular TS10 is huge. This is exactly how I think an EDC flashlight should be.

With the longer throw, however, you also have to make a small compromise: Currently the LED is only available in cool white with low CRI.

Conclusion

The Wurkkos TS10 SG is a successful update of the classic TS10. With the new optics and the Luminus SFT-25R, the throw has been significantly increased. Otherwise everything has remained the same. Compact, playful and inexpensive. There’s a reason the TS10 has enjoyed great popularity for years.

Thank you for the review.

The first two photos demonstrate the extra throw of the TS10SG very well.

The second two pics show how nice and Green the leaves and grass look, with the SFT25.

For outdoor use, the TS10SG is a very nice little thrower.

Merry Xmas!

Great review.
Love that Spooky Tree lined lane too. Just kind of fades into the abyss.
Have that same Christmas Red TS10 SG and am blown away at how it can get that much range with no reflector.
Technology is great.

Later and Merry Christmas !!

I love the beam shape and throw. But I’ve got a question - did you time how quickly it steps down from turbo? (Is it better or worse than the original TS10 with the 3 CSP LED’s?)

1 Thank

I wasn’t finished with that part, but wanted to release the review for Christmas. Here’s a runtime test of turbo (target set to 50°C).

Thanks for the update.

It would be interesting to see how a lens like this compares to a lens that is that is the same diameter but its deeper.
