Surprised that there were no comments on your review. I just received the 519A LEDs version a week or so ago and have also ordered the high CRI LH351D LEDs version too. I have left mine in stepped mode for now and find it plenty versatile as is though I may try ramped mode later. A relatively straightforward but versatile user interface in my opinion that I like. Unlike Nitecore no half and full presses needed.
At 13,000 genuine lumens this is a powerful light with 2+ times the output of the same basic size Nitecore TM28 which is about 4 times the price. The light has a very flexible and easy to use user interface with the two operating buttons BUT READ THE MANUAL. As a personal preference I have replaced the Philips drive handle mounting bolt with a black finish Allen drive button head bolt as easier to install, remove and keep well tightened. My one criticism of the handle is the location of it in relation to the operating buttons. It should be moved closer to the operating buttons radially to allow right handed people to hold the handle and operate the control buttons with their thumb for one hand easy operation. An additional handle mounting hole on the other side of the buttons would allow left handed folks to do the same. Like all high power LED lights if used at the higher powers much it will get toasty so the handle is definitely worthwhile.
That’s hell of an impressive light. The output is even more impressive considering that it’s high CRI, which significantly reduces the lumen count. And its throw is more sustainable than the TM28.
Was looking for throw numbers on the TM28 but found this review where the light stepped down at 4 minutes.
Excellent flood operation too with no readily discernible hot spot in the flood beam as long as the spot beam is not activated. The two buttons , one each for spot and flood beams, provided versatility with simple operation for us dummies.
I measured and compared this light with a few Chinese high-lumen budget light here. Even among those higher power lights, it is by far my most favorite. The 519a beam is green at lower power but fabulous at Turbo level, among the “best”/most beautiful of all Nichia beams that I’ve seen.
Output with Samsung 30T was 14000 lumen with just the 519a LEDs, and 15800 lumens with both 519a and SFT40. Among the highest, if not THE hightest, of all Nichia lights, I think. Summary of outputs with different batteries
“With Samsung 30T 519a: about same as 40T ~14000, SFT40: about same as 40T ~1700. Both LEDs: max 15800 lm”
The reason this light is so unique, a high power light with Nichia LEDs (!), is it was a result of input from BLF posters. There was a thread somewhere for this effort and IIRC, LHD version was out first, then with further input, the 519a was done as the last, and “ultimate” version for hobbyists. I recommend it nearly without reservation for anyone interested in Nichia lights.
