Help would be greatly appreciated with this Convoy S11 quad build.
I have spent hrs on here reading post about this build and have made my components list. Before ordering them I would love for you guys to just make sure I am on the right track.
My main concern is my parts list is coming from a year old thread so maybe there are better options now?
So I have an S11 host with a kiriba S11 copper quad spacer pill. LED’s not 100% but thinking of max output on this light so XP-L HI V3 3A 5K
This MCPCB here is about the only option as the new Noctigon is to big for my pill @ 23mm I need 20-21mm
The driver is one I am not sure about looking at this one FET + 7135 Driver - 22mm - MTN-22DDm here going with options: Crescendo firmware with temp sensor, 1.2mm PCB thickness (do not know why the 1.2mm is heavier than the 1.6mm?)
There is no driver I could buy with Anduril UI right?
10622 & 10621 Carclo lens will try both but I already have 22 and like them.
I guess you can’t go wrong with those materials you are indicating!
I don’t have any quad spacer but if kiriba-ru did a specific one for that light and you managed to sort the right MCPCB, great, you’re in the right way!
As for the driver thickness, not having the light I can’t be sure if that is the most adequate thickness. Maybe checking the original driver thickness in this thread can help you to chose the best one.
Or you can check this thread where longuylander built a quad version too.
About the LEDs, you’ll get a good neutral white beam with the 5000K XP-L HI.
Being a clicky switch, you can’t choose a driver with Anduril, as it Anduril is made for e-switch lights.
Please note that Crescendo doesn’t act like Anduril. In Crescendo, you click ON and it immediately ramps, while in Anduril, you need to press&hold to ramp. Check if that is the UI you want before ordering the driver.
I ran into a problem while building my S11 quad and would like to warn you.
The mcpcb you are going to use is 1.6mm thick. Quad Noctigon is 2mm thick.
kiriba-ru designed this spacer for Noctigon.
If you have a solid quad spacer it will be best to solder the mcpcb to the pill, but centering may be a problem (20mm mcpcb and 24mm cut on the spacer).
If you have a spacer and a separate brass “bezel” (like me) you can simply sand this bezel from the bottom by 0.4-0.5mm.
Keep that in mind, because there is a risk of burning the LEDs, they will not have proper heat dissipation.
Even when using the Noctigon, I had a problem with pressing the mcpcb and the glass broke as a result.
