Samsung 30Q Battery Safety

I just recieved the 30Qs which I planned to use for my FWA3.

It says: “WARNING FIRE HAZARD. NEVER CARRY IN POCKET. NOT FOR E-CIG OR VAPE” on the cell wrapper.

Anyone else using this for their lights?

Yes, very popular choice

I don't own one, but it's a common cell for flashlights.

If it's in your pocket, it needs to be in a flashlight or a plastic battery holder.

Don't just throw it in your pocket loosely, especially if you have other items in your pocket.

In fact, pretty much don't leave it anywhere loosely. It should always be in either a device designed for it (flashlight, whatever else that uses 18650s), or in some sort of battery holder.

Excellent advice.

The Samsung 30Q is a great cell. I own a dozen or more.

It’s not necessarily any more dangerous than any other quality, name-brand 18650 cell.

It is thought that Samsung has adding this warning as a CYA precaution to discourage use by the ‘vape’ community. They drive cells and devices very hard, which leads to accidents, and sometimes injuries.

18650 manufacturers never intended bare cells to be used by end-consumers. Indeed they are potentially hazardous.

If you are learned and responsible, they can be used reasonably safely. Unfortunately many vapers do not fall into that category, hence some have been injured or even killed by exploding cells. Sometimes the cell manufacturers are targeted in lawsuits.

This printed warning is basically a legal disclaimer.

Thank you!

Works great in my FW3A. It can take a lot of abuse. Youtube vid of one being shorted out: Samsung 30Q vs Nickel Strip

Interesting, it didn’t explode. Good to know.

Yep, the Samsung 30Q is boring and doesn’t make for a viral vid.

For many things boring is good
