I still love the MT-G2 in all its creamy goodness.
I don’t even care about its R9 or CRI or anything else, as it’s just got a great great beam.

I have an Emisar D1v2 modded with an MT-G2 and I fully agree. The CRI is decent at around 80 but I wouldn’t care if it was 70, it is just such a nice emitter.
Yes.
The MT-G2, to me, was the high CRI emitter before the new generation of Nichias. Had a Thrunite TN35 with that emitter, and it has a way of making wood tones look better than LH351D 5000K despite objectively having lower CRI. And unlike any other domed emitter, it has basically no tint shift.
The MT-G2 is also one of my favourite emitters. It’s efficiency is really low though. But the beam quality and tint was superior. Back in 2014 or so it was a really cool emitter. I used a MT-G2 for several years in my PD40 until I swapped it (also the driver to get Anduril UI) with XHP70.3 HI.
Like today, this depends on the reflector used. In a Olight R50 Pro Seeker where I put a MT-G2 5000 K in there is slightly yellow tintshift in the spill. Not that much, it is not annoying.
I remember seeing this swap! It is extremely nice.
Not surprised, as the R50 Pro Seeker has one of the shallowest reflectors I’ve ever seen, by height to width ratio. So the hotspot/corona is almost exclusively sideways emission by the LED, which is yellower than the averaged tint.
The 5000K LH351Ds (SPHWHTL3DA0GF4RTS6, aka “dogfarts”) that I have in my triple S2+ seem true to 5000K. They are not golden at all.
They are also sliced and with a green AR lens which makes them slightly rosy. A wonderful tint, good CRI, and with a MTN FET+1 driver, lots of lumens!
But maybe they have changed since I got mine over 4 years ago.
Since you’re not happy with the warmer CCT of the X3, I would suggest that you try modifying it with a 5000K or 5700K 519A. And if you do, please let us know how it went.
I got a LH351D in 5700K and 90CRI in a S2+. In direct comparison the 519A in same CCT and CRI is more rosy and has better color quality, at least for the human eye.
The beam is okay, but I don’t see the real advantage of the LH351D here, apart from less cost. The 519A is just the perfect allrounder with no major flaws.
That will be the goal. Will update if successful🤞
