Samsung LH351D opinions

Wuben X3 with Samsung LH351D. What do you guys think of this emitter? Seems too golden to be around 5000k(specs)

Yes, it is a bit yellowish if compared to a 519A. But I like it in my SC21, has good cri and brightness.

2 Thanks

The '351 was The Golden Child until a new emitter came out, then became The Red-Headed Stepchild.

I still like 'em. They definitely ain’t rosy, but they got good CRI and to me look nice, especially behind a TIR lens.

I’m not a huge fan of them, most of mine tend to be above BBL and look greenish/yellow, so they’ve ended up getting swapped out.

I use 519a instead as a first choice, domed if I want a neutral tint but usually dedomed for a rosy tint.
My SC21 Pro with LH351D 5000k was ridiculously green tinted, but it’s very nice with a 519a now.

The only LH351D I’ve gotten with a neutral tint ended up being my SP36 BLFs, one in 5000k and one in 4000k, though skin and wood colors look a bit “off” in 5000k due to the lack of deeper red phosphor (they glow green under UV).

I prefer SST-20 4000k instead of LH351D as a “second choice” 3535 Ra>90 emitter, at least Hank’s bin tends to be decent and it’s slightly more throwy as well.

3 Thanks

Apparently I won the tint lottery on the ones that came in my SP36 BLF. I learned soon after how they tend towards green and never bought any more lights with them after. Now I consider the 519a to be a safer purchase.

I had the same happen to me, seems like Sofirn had a particularly good bin for them. Mine are the newer Anduril 2 T1616 version.

I was originally planning on swapping it to dedomed 519a, but they’re just too nice to swap out.

FYI you can ninja-edit text if it has only been 1-2 minutes after posting and it won’t show “edited”

I was actually re-posting because I initially responded directly to you instead of the thread at large. I guess it doesn’t matter much, just an OCD thing. And what I posted is more directly related to what you said anyway

Have a Wurkkos FC11 with an 18350 tube replacement on my desk and use it often.
Those early 351D’s were a nice creamy white and still hold their own in some flashlights.

Like anything, the beauty is in the Eye of the Beer Holder

Exactly. Other than when driven on super-low which could become greenish, light at any appreciable current always looked pretty good to me.

Then again, I still really like my old-timers with the 3C Crees behind a TIR. Reflectors made them look too fried-eggy, but mixed up nicely through a TIR lens, they made a great warm-sunlight tint/temp. Slightly above the BBL just like real sunlight and while CRI may not be very much, it was perfectly usable.

Dunno, but while I do like a good quality light, way too many people get wound too tightly about The Perfect Emitter.

Right now the 519 is everybody’s darling, but just wait for The Next Great Emitter to come along, and the 519 will be called dogshiite by everyone, just like the 351 is today.

You mean called DA0GF4RTS?

Only if there’s a lump in the middle…

Yeah, that’s probably not gonna land. Comes from:

surprise (n.) – a fart with a lump in the middle.

It’s fine but I can’t imagine a light in which LH351D is the best LED to use. To me it’s a cost saver choice, but getting better LEDs isn’t really that much more ($10 add to a $40-$50 light?).

Unless I see a super crazy deal on an LH351D light (which I probably have no business buying anyways), it’s a non-starter for me.

I don’t see any issues with the 2700k or the 4000k in the FC11. But I did see a 5000k that I didn’t like one bit. So color temperature and Cri matters.

I have LH351D in Convoy T2-4000k, Sofirn SP10v3-5000k and Wurkkos H25L-5000k and all of them have good - not greenish tint.
Sofirn and Wurkkos examples of H25L have a little different tints of light, Sofirn have more yellowish light.
I like LH351D and for floodlight but I see that today 519A is more liked diode.
LH351D give a little more lumens than 519A on same current but I think that 519A have lower Vf.
All in all it is still very usable led.

Don’t think so. Heck, I still love the good old 219BT-V1, especially in the sw45k rosy bin. These LEDs were released in 2013, 2014? - many years ago for sure. Despite old and (in comparison to 519A) with low performance - and high forward voltage - I still want this LED in many of my lights, and fortunately Hank and Simon are still able to ship lights with them.

Also the old XP-L HI (not the 2nd gen, I talking about 1st gen with bonding wires) is still a good LED for allrounder and throwy lights - of course there were some bad binnings with green and yellow, but especially the 3000 K color 7A3 (available at Convoy) ones look really good, with absolutely perfect beam in SMO reflectors.

The LH351D is okay. I am not really interested in this emitter since I have 519A, but these are quite usable in terms of beam and tint. But I have to say, these are on the greener side in most cases, so these are more like a hit or miss in terms of tint.

But yeah, these people will likely be exist which declare everything from the past as bad and unusable…

What do you like with the 519A over the LH351D? I don’t have a 519A yet.

You guys think a emitter swap in a Wuben X3 would be hard? The LH351D is just so darn gold. I’m a white light guy

Mostly tint consistency. I almost never got any greenish or yellowish tints from them. Also superior light quality. The LH351D has slightly lower CRI and R9, but in practical use this is not relevant because the difference is almost not visible at all.

And the dedoming capabilities are good, this is essential if a (deliberate) tint shift or extremely warm CCT (warmer than 2700 K) is required.

The beam is just fine in most reflectors and lenses, but the LH351D has also no problem in this regard.

2 Thanks

This would depend on subjective perceptivity–to me the R9/CRI difference between 519A and LH351D is very obvious in both 5000K and 3500K (for which I have LH351D). 5000K especially, the LH351D makes browns and skin tones look very pale and sickly, worse than a SST20 4000K that has a greener tint.

is the dress blue or gold?
