Hi all, its been some years since i’ve post here, I thought id got this out of my system but recently snagged a LEP and that seems to have awoken something
So anyway years ago i recall a user on here managing to fit a Generation 1 SBT90 (round die) led into a Jaxman Z1 it had a wonderful perfectly round circle beam…
I see now that many of these older Leds are just a few bucks now… I am wondering if anyone’s got any driver suggestions? ideally looking for a buck 2-3cell
These are not first-gen SBT90’s, but imitations that perform worse than the 2nd gen. For a good round throwy emitter to throw in a Z1, the SFT25R is hard to beat.
The Kaidomain round die emitters are imitations, yes, not the original SBT90’s. They still have ok performance though, but if you want maximum throw in a round die, SFT25R is currently pretty much the best emitter for this purpose.
Both the L90 (imitation SBT90) and SFT25R are 3V. The SFT25R does well with 8A of current or below, the L90 can take a lot more (but in exchange heats up very quickly and goes through a battery in very little time).
SFT25R Arrived today so I promptly swapped out the YINDING 5050 with its glass removed that I’d installed previous in the Jax I only have a 7amp driver but the beam is definitely cleaner way more uniform tint and nice amount of output, thanks for your great advice definitely a nice little emitter!
So glad to hear that the mod turned out well! 7A is a good drive current for SFT25R, maintaining efficiency and thermal performance; going above is pushing its limits.
