Scientists have been stimulating individual rods and cones with laser light to produce colors never seen before. They have called a supersaturated blue green olo. I would have liked a bit more information here are they talking about blue green or cyan which is what you get mixing blue and green light? This is going to get fun. There are videos of “color blind” people given people glasses called enchroma to enable them to see new colors. What these do is eliminate the wavelenghts between colors to make the colors more saturated. When I worked at the photo lab I exposed some photographic paper to a cyalume glow stick. This produced a supersaturated magenta in the developed paper. When the first atomic bomb was set off a blind girl 100 miles away saw it. If the brain area exists that can process colors we should be able to produce new colors by direct stimulation of the brain.
I wonder about the blind-gril thing, though. Did she really have a retinal reaction, or did the EMP just jiggle nerves in her brain to make her “see” the flash?
I once saw a meteor go right overhead, super bright, and “heard” it fizzing as it did so.
Now, I know for a fact that if it were even as close as 1mi overhead, it’d take a good 5sec to hear any sound. So that “sound” that I “heard”, wasn’t sound at all, but probably super-strong RF that jiggled auditory nerves to “hear” that fizzing.
Similarly, I made this spinning disc that was half black and half white, and had concentric arcs at different radii away from center. Actually made a nice one for my gf, too.
Motor with simple speed control, you adjust it and watch the disc. When you get to the “right” speed, you’ll see color bands like a rainbow. Reverse the direction, and the order of the colors reverses, too!
In the writeup about the disc’s pattern, it was said that the spinning disc was shown on teevee, and even people who had b&w sets could see the colors as well.
So…
In most cases it is the eyes that are damaged. There are several drugs that make the blind see. I think what these drugs do is cross wire signals from one neurotransmiter to a different one thus synthesia. An ordinary lightning bolt can pull an electron positron pair from the vacuum. These anhilitate each other and create two X ray photons that have no problem traveling through your brain knocking every electron out of the way they encounter. The brain is electrical you will notice this if you are close enough. Also there was one case of a man who had a brain tumor and lost the ability to see color or even remember color. There was a spy movie where the bad guy fired a weapon that had a spinning disc special effect out of the barel. I saw the color too even though the TV was black and white. No idea how this works.
Your disks sound like one of the prizes in Cracker Jacks which was a little top with a pattern that would show different colors as it spun at different speeds. That was a LONG time ago.
