Share Your Favorite Budget Keychain Tool

There are some great tools for our keychains out there.
Some outrageous in price and some priced just right and by far my favorite is the Utilikey.
It usually goes for ~$9, it has a knife, bottle opener, flat/phillips small screwdriver, and tiny flat screwdriver for eye glasses and such.
It can snap into place on key ring as well as at 90º and 180º during use.
Great for opening packages/letters, bottle tops, you name it!
Best thing about it is it’s small size and weight, very similar to a key hence the name.

I’ve had this one on my keychain for about 10 years or so.
I’ve heard people say that they’ve taken it through airlines with no problem but ymmv.
So what’s your favorite or most used budget keychain tool, even if it’s one you’ve made yourself?

The Utilikey is good. I’ve switched over to a Leatherman Squirt ES4. Very handy combination of tools: knife, screwdrivers, file, scissors, wire cutter, wire stripper, pliers, and the all important bottle opener:

Good story.

Over ten years ago now, shortly after the 9/11 tragedy, boxes and boxes of all shapes and size pocket knifes started showing up at my local thrift store (which is very close to the Rochester International Airport), and they were ALL priced at .29 cents!

I felt like a kid in a candy store. Wow.

Just as suddenly they stopped coming. I figured someone at the airport smartened up and started selling them on e-bay?

Anyway even after gifting dozens away to family and friends, I still have many left.

The Rambler is one of my favorites, is in my pocket every day, and is used multiple times a day.

The Rally, the Rambler’s skinnier, less expensive cousin.

The Leatherman Squirt S4 is my favourite!

The PS4 looks nice too, but too expensive…

I have a Leatherman Squirt P4. It's pretty sweet! 8)

I like the skinnier part, but I think I would miss my scissors.

the utilikey is really neat. any online store to find that?
currently I just carry multitool pocket may 7 or 9 in 1…it just too big for keychain gadget…

edit: found it on ebay, some clone with the name utili-key without the swisstech marking, free shipment for $6.55…gotta search more for the original one…

I agree with THE-dAY, the Utili-key is pretty sweet for the money. Especially if you wear glasses or know were to get 10 cent glassed-bottled Cokes (Montique Tool and Supply, in the back by the rest rooms; don’t tell them I sent ya). I have one on my key ring. I think I picked it up at Radio Shack or Staples on sale for less than $5.

I have a LM Micra, PS4, and a one of their small “Styles” (can’t remember it’s real name). All fine tools, but too big for my keychain, ymmv. In fact, the only thing on my key ring besides the Utili-key, truck and house keys, is the Res-Q-Me tool. Frankly, it is the one key chain MT I would never be without.

Those bigger boys are nice especially with the scissors, I’ve needed scissors a few times…

So I see Fasttech has a generic? Uitilikey for sale $5.52

There’s no logo on it, don’t know how the quality would be on that one.

sorotantaz, I don’t remember where I got mine from but I’ve bought some for friends/family from eBay.
I think they were airport confiscations as Backpacker Light mentioned.

Racer, how’s the bottle opener on that middle one, the “Navy 2001”?
It looks like an Atwood style.

@the_day, thanks for pointing the one in FT, I just bid the original one in ebay…will have to wait first.
anyway if buying from swisstech site, they are also have price sale…

I hope you win that bid, I’ve also seen them in outdoor/camping type stores but a little more pricey.

There is another version out now with nail file, but I like this one better because of the little knife.

I used to carry a Classic and you’re right, I do miss the scissors from time to time. But I didn’t want anything thicker, and the Phillips/bottle opener has been a worthy trade-off for me. At least so far.

Hopefully  never see that kind of goods before and will be cool to have one to replace this very standard multitools :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the Gerber Curve.

For the past 20+ years I've had a swiss army knife W/ scissors .Minus the plastic sides . I needed thinner and the plastic was just a waste of space , It takes a while for the rivets to wear down to become smooth.

Rip the sides off ..makes the knife a much better size .The tweezers never worked or just got lost ..& I need a knife much more than a plastic toothpick.

I was curious about the Utilikey from FastTech so I ordered one and it came today.

It comes in a real looking Swisstech package.

Left: real one, Right: fasttech version

This was given as gift to someone that was visiting so didn’t have time to check every tool.
Here are some quick observations:
They look very similar with similar feel and weight.
Didn’t use the knife but it felt sharp just like the original.
The bottle opener did work great just like the original.
In the pic of the fronts you can see the hole (part where it swivels) is smaller on the fasttech version.
The main issue I had was that the fasttech version does not stay/snap in place as well as the original when set at 90º and 180º.
It does snap into place but just not as tight/securely as the original.
Conclusion: To me, the snapping in place at 90º and 180º are important since I use the key in those positions a lot.
This one cost ~$5.50 from fasttech so if I were in the market for one I’d just pay the few extra bucks and get the original.
I hope this helps anyone who was curious.

I also ordered one from FT, after lost the bid of original one in ebay. quite surprise to know the packaging is original version.
will see what I will receive. maybe it is original one inside too

Wouldn’t be without one, you never know when it’ll come in handy.
