A very nice collection Of Maglites you have Bluecvbc. I haven’t had much to do with them until recently. What gets me is that the head is a lot larger than they seem. Whats your favorite?
that first pic recalls me of one of those universe documentaries, where they compare the sun with other types of stars…
the mtg looks like the red giant
It hard to pick a favorite one, each is unique and build for specific with specific character in mind.
Green 4d with mtg2 is A LOT of light when needed and nice show off, it has a h6flex driver in it and goes from 20ma all the way up to 6.6 amps with over 90% efficacy! So long runtime for power outs and wide beam even in mag led reflector is useful up inside.
The small 2c with xml2 on copper dedomed if for wow factor for showing off, it is driven at over 4.5 amps.
The sst90 is retired but is wan my first big mod mag so it stays with me.
The 3d xml2 on copper as well is good all around and camping light coz it runs of standard D cells so can of buy them at any gas station if needed.
Similar with 2D xpg2 on copper, but has the advantage of LD-29 driver for two 18650 or 3C rechargeable or alkaleaks.
The incandescent ones build just for fun and pleasing light. Yeah right the sole purpose of icans is to go somewhere with the and have someone pull out an led mag and start bragging that this is old tech and led is the future coz its brighter and what not, that is until their beam vanishes into oblivion when 1300 lumens of pelican high bulb is unleashed with one click of a switch.
Excellent work and great lights. I recently got a pill for a 3D mag and am still deciding what to do with it. I’ll probably go with a De-domed XM-L2 because I love throw and spend a lot of time out looking at wildlife.
I know that each mod you have done is not that easy to do. That’s what makes them so unique, and valuable. Not everyone can have one.
It is also encouraging to me every time someone like you “pops” up. I can see that you have been around here for awhile and have posted before, but I don’t ever remember seeing you. Then suddenly you post this, your fine efforts. Truly, the talent runs deep here on BLF!
Thank you guys for recognition but a lot of credit goes to BLF and all the knowledge stored whitin it, I just knew what I wanted to accomplish and read how others did it then just piece together all of it in one light at the time.
Nothing really out of ordinary with the way I make my lights, just flat heat sink, bolted down copper star with the led of preference, make sure all fits, arctic silver where needed. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to answer.
As much as I would like to share the process of making the lights I am not good, in fact I am terrible at sharing my ways to do things. Most if the time I make my lights at night, sometimes fiddling until 3:00AM. Hard to take pictures when I am ‘in zone’ and ‘see the light at the end’. To top it off my dog decided to use my laptop as a pee spot once and hadn’t got a chance to replace it, I am posting from my phone.
That is a great collection of mods of all sorts, thanks for sharing!
Because daytime is for work&family, light modding is banned to late at night for me too. But I do try to make pictures for BLF if I believe it is something that others could be interested in. Taking pictures significantly slows down the work, and writing things up is also very time consuming, but it feels right doing it, I really like such posts from others as well. And of course it is nice if it is appreciated what you do, the BLF community is very good at that :-)
I got it at Home Depot. I drive around a lot for work and stop by lowes and depot every time a pass one and look for unique colors and sizes. The green I found about two weeks ago.
Thank you guys, the forum Inspires me to do things like that.
Btw, the green mag had an xml2 U2 in it at full 6.6Amps before the mtg arrived, and it survived without problem the runtime test but it was HOT.
