After some awesome comments from this community in helping me understand the basics of flashlight selection (really, thank you all!), I have taken a liking to a specific form factor of lights that combine the traditional flashlight form factor with a sidelight. See my prior post for what my personal requirements are, if you’re interested.
Added this picture for general idea of the type I mean
There are not many of this type of light, which I could see as an indication that this type of light is perhaps not a good design. But I thought I’d open this new thread to discuss the different options that do exist.
- Well-built and compact
- Weak tailcap magnet
- Hook for hanging
- Poor thermal performance on sidelight
- No colors on the sidelight
- Steady performance on throw light
- Comes with a diffusion cap for the throw light, too
- Glow-in-the-dark features (button, cap)
- No pocket clip
- Pricey, compared to the next option
Lumintop has a smaller version, E05C, that looks very similar but perhaps a bit older.
- Well-built and compact
- Very, very poor firmware
- Awkward auto lock, can not be disabled
- Low CRI for throw light
- Engaged manufacturer
- Colors; although no intensity levels for this mode
- So much potential left on the table
- Firmware pins, but no proof it can be updated
- Decent output in both lights, very big swings though
- Plenty of runtime
- Levels fluctuate wildly, albeit slowly
- Rotating body vs. mount is nice
- A bit on the chunky side, especially given the 18650 battery
- The zoom function on the throw light deserves a mention
- Limited powerbank capacity
- Limited output
- Not much information is out there.
- Low output
- Low battery capacity
- Battery not user-replaceable
- Not much information out there
- No powerbank mode
Do you know any such models?
