single 18650 light thats more floody than throw

For flood, maybe a trustfire Z8, some solarforce P60s (NW of course, but that’s up to you), or a zebralight.

I think C8 would be more throw than flood though. You want flood, therefore you’re looking for something with a smaller head.

I would suggest to do small modification finding suitable wide angle TIR lenses and replace reflector with it.
You can find cheap 21mm lenses here leddna.com but you might search elswere for some bigger ones like those : http://www.ledil.com/products/?search=true&led=XM-L

Zebralight SC600w XML
Up there in price though.

Ultrafire WF 502b XM-LT6

Nice and floody, plenty bright!!.

What sort of budget?

Anything with an XM-L and small reflector will be floody. Or something with a HOP reflector (or both! )

Personally I quite like asperhic style lenses set to flood, I’ve got a Trustfire Z8 (14500 powered) and while not the widest flood beam ever it’s lovely and even which I much prefer to lights with a brighter hot spot (if I want flood that is).

This One is very floody, and compact enough for EDC. Nice and bright with a nice tint. It lights up my whole back yard on high.

You may wish to consider the Ultrafire UF-T50.

If it's not floody enough, you can use a bit of diffusion film over the lens.

(PM me, and I'll send you some N/C)

...and for a smoother/flooder beam, this reflector:

The Roche - BLF review

P60 maybe what you want, maybe with TIR so you can try different lens angles/styles

Maybe even a mule for full flood . . XML is still going to throw a lot of light, just not as far as focused.

T6, pretty similar to C8 in bigger format

Another possible direction - King or other triple with small reflectors (don’t know for sure if it runs on 1 batt, though)

The king does run on 1 battery, but it’ll be pretty hard on the battery, plus you’ll have like 10 min runtime.

thanks for the many suggestions. from watching videos, i dont think the zebra sc 600 or the z8 is bright enough for me. both has plenty flood, but doesnt seem bright enough. or maybe it was just lacking the throw…maybe it was the video, who knows.

the uf 502b looks nice, but i read the 501b is brighter and floodier, is this true.

and i do already have some aspheric lens lights. i actually do like it when set to flood mode, but it lacks the brightness and the throw i still need. i know i can just change it up to zoom, but i wont both at the same time.

that furbro looks tight, but i cant find any vids or beam shots, or even where to buy one

the roche f12 is compared to the sc600 so dunno if its bright enough again.

the uf t50 i really like. i think i will purchase this one. but i was looking to buy 3 of these floodier than throw lights.

and i remember reading about p60 hosts. i think i will buy one of those for my second light. but i have no experience what so ever in building one. is it hard. can you guys link me to a good p60 host. and i will buy that drop in and reflector that keltex 78 linked.
and whats this tir lens i keep hearing about?

oh, and i do own a king, that light is awesome, but i want something smaller.

i just found some more beam shots of the zebra sc600, ok that thing is pretty bright, i was mistaken. i guess i should take another look at that roche.

oh, and i just saw that the uf t50 is around $45. i think thats more than i want to spend for this type of light since i am going to buy three lights. i was looking to only spend in the $25 range.

You want something smaller than a king, yet has a brighter output than single XML lights. You also want something which provides a lot of flood along with a lot of throw. You also want it to use a single 18650. You see where I’m going with this right?
Just get a solarforce L2m with a NW emitter from IO. It’s the best $30 worklight you’ll ever have. A P60 has a really good balance between flood and throw too.

The 501b/502b/503b/504b etc. hosts are all P60 hosts and will be the same brightness with the same cell and drop-in. it's simply a tube that holds your cell and will take any compatible P60 drop-in.

I'm partial to these hosts:

Sky Ray S-R5 - $7.99 - rugged, good heatsinking, nice style, and tailstands:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/sky-ray-sr5-flashlight-tube-deep-metallic-blue-no-led-emitter-p-10824

Ultrafire 504b - $8.12 - tailstands, good heatsinking, no crenelations, anti-roll feature, but some of us have had issues with the switch not being able to handle the high amount of current from the XM-L drop-in:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf50x-flashlight-tube-metal-bezel-black-no-led-emitter-p-6064

...and here in silver:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf50x-flashlight-tube-metal-bezel-silver-no-led-emitter-p-6065

If you like the 502b, it's available here:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf502b-flashlight-tube-no-led-emitter-p-5848

...and the 501b is here:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf501b-flashlight-tube-metallic-black-no-led-emitter-p-4050

...although I don't recommend the 501b for the XM-L drop-in; the 501b host has a lot of empty space in the head that restricts heat sinking...

+1.

I have a Solarforce L2T with the 3 mode Ultrafire dropin and SMO and the Roche is a lot more floody thanks to the small reflector. It’s also a lot smaller.

The F12 I have is the intl-outdoors job so it’s not driven as hard as the Ultrafire T6. It still lights up whatever half of my back yard I point it at.

A Solarforce pocket clip fits nicely on the F12 also.

unique-fire 2100 / ultrafire 2100

i went ahead and ordered a roche f12. i was gonna order the solarforce, but since the roche is slot floodier and smaller, i went with that one instead.

as far as the p60 hosts, i like the skyray one the best. but i actually dont want a light that can tail stand. i dislike how the switch is inside the tail cap. are there any p60 hosts that dont tail stand? i tried to search for them on manafont, but only the 501b shows up.

solarforce L2M 2012 edition: $11

Plenty of Solarforce hosts won’t tailstand - for example the L2, L2M, L2T, P1.

Slewflash quite rightly pointed out the L2M as or $11 for the host it’s excellent bang for the buck.
