Hey guys,
So I’ve put a roof rack on my car for cellular antenna and wifi mounts, seems a shame to leave it without a light on it…
Needs to be low profile so I’m thinking a 31” single row led light bar.
Seems to be quite the price range and very little actual information provided by manufacturers and merchants from $50 to $1000 for what the information provided could be exactly the same thing.
Just to clear things up before the inevitable. … laws over here allow it for off road use only. It will not be used on road. However I do visit offroad sections where speeds over 140kph are quite achievable. As such more light out the front is better. I’m already running front mount spots but getting a higher angle to eliminate shadows would be nice, I do not want the increased drag which would be caused by roof mounting hid/halogen or orther such larger lights.
If you look around a lot of hardware, automotive and outdoor stores have driving light bars, for example BCF, Repco and SCA.
I personally would not buy from ebay because of the lack of warranty and lower quality assurance, you definitely don’t want it
dying during a trip, look for something with a decent warranty and a chance to return if its not what you want.
Its hard to know which to recommend, as the market has been diluted with cheap generic, try look at 4wd forums, they seem to have
endless arguments about this, or 4wd magazine reviews
I assume you’ve had a look at products like this BCF
Yeah, Ive looked at the retail stores, Ive looked at what little there is in reviews online.
The reviews do not look trust worthy at all, Most cover 1 or two brands, And also seem to sell those brands…
Retail stores seem way over priced for questionable quality or lights that seem to have no review, No manufacture specs on individual globe manufacturer, wattage, colour, beam profile, distance to 1 lux, real draw etc etc.
Dont go rigid lights for sure. They are the surefire of light bars. I just picked up a 30” dual row light bar with wiring harness for under $100 on ebay…….caught’em sleeping!
Rough Country sells good light bars and includes wiring harnesses too. They are out of stock on 30” single rows but if you shoot them an email im sure they are getting more stock soon
Contact them and see if they will ship international. I know they ship to CAN so don’t see why they wouldn’t ship to AUS. Just installed my 30” dual row behind my 2014 Silverado grill this morning and just waiting for it to get dark now
Can you see what type of LED’s they use ?
How good are the reflectors ?
Glass or pollycarbonate ?
How many watts are actually being delivered to each led ? (real world, not manufacture spec)
I’m looking at getting one for my new Triton, but TBH I don’t want to buy cheap rubbish nor do I want to buy cheap rubbish rebranded by Aussie resellers and sold as good equipment.
I paid $83 shipped for my 30” with wiring harness. For that money i can buy 3 more replacements before i get to what the rough country cost and i can buy 8 replacements before i get to rigid levels……you do get what you pay for on some stuff but others are taking advantage of buyers, i.e. rigid
Fragarach, I’m searching as well. Looking for a single row. Everything I find even the expensive stuff is 6000 to 7000 Kelvin. Does anyone know of anyone selling an empty host for this sort of thing?
