Short story, I got partial refund after paypal claim and no success with their support center.
It seems that only CQG has original kings,so I bought a black one from there.
From my experience, the easiest way to recognize fake king is mirror-like shiny bezel(nickel or chrome plated something, original king has matte finish inox).
I was thinking whether to buy it as I am quite sure it is a counterfeit (How can it be selling for so cheap?). Can anyone advise me whether should I buy or should I get from CNQ?
Or should I get this TR3T6 for $20? I guess there should not be any fake for this light?
Thanks for taking the time to post so many great photos and warnings. I got a king from lightmalls about a year ago. It was perfect… as expected (3 terroid driver, perfect host, etc). Just when Im getting ready to order another, you posted and saved me a lot of frustration. No more lightmalls for me! That new king looks like it was fabed and assembled by a team of drunken monkeys! Very shabby work, to say the least. Also looks like their CS dont care about its customers like they used to. Dont let them get away with it - by not closing your dispute with paypal. Deman a 100% refund. If that doesnt work, contact the credit card company that pays your paypal and request a dispute for a charge-back.
This is very important information for the rest of us. Thanks again for posting!
I hope others see this before they think about ordering from drunken lightmall monkeys! |(
why are you searching for the “golden fleece” so to speak when you can have the best of the best….SRK at Fast TEch…it’s better than the rest.
…didn’t believe it til I got
one.
What the hell ya waitin’ for? You guys think coz they printed “sky ray king” in a neat crescent near the bezel that it’s the bomb?…get real! Oh foolish one thou art…
Many in this forum have tried to distinguish the original skyray king (if there’s even such a thing) from the various copycats. Other than some cosmetic differences, is there any difference in performance between the two?
The FandyFire UV-S5 from FastTech I got matches led4power's first SRK perfectly in regards to all those cosmetic issues. Interesting, wasn't aware there were truly poor quality copycats out there of the SRK.
I was browsing taobao and the seller states that the skyray king is for china market, and if buyers are looking at international version look elsewhere.
Ok so I was a bit skeptical about purchasing a Skyray King from Lightmalls, although I do trust that site from which I have purchased many flawless lights, I was a bit concerned after reading some comments about their version of the SRK.
Naturally, despite my skepticism, unable to contain my curiosity, I decided to pull the trigger on this one.
The light came in 6 days (although shipping to America would probably take longer), and was nicely packaged in the normal white gift box with a Skyray sticker on it. The light that I received had a flawlessly machined body, without a single mark or scratch in the anodisation. The threads were not lubed, but that was easily fixed with some synthetic engine oil.
What I was dreading was for the emitters to be poorly centered, but they had little white rings to help align them, which resulted in perfectly centered emitters. And yes, all 3 XMLs light up when the light is switched on.
I am yet to do ceiling bounce and beamshots (18650s charging atm). Current would be rather challenging to measure, so I will skip that for now.
Can’t wait until I can witness the full potential of this beast!
The FandyFire UV-S5 I also got from fasttech matches the first piccies.
I think the “situation” may not be nothing like it seems, the cord/lanyard for example might be something as simple as they changed supplier for these, machining differences could be due to demand they are using more than 1 supplier of the parts etc.
This happens all the time in the car industry, slight detail differences, Bosch fuel pumps made in Hungary for my sierra cossie are slightly different to the Bosch pumps made in mexico or germany for example, but all are genuine.
