I have several red LED lights based upon the WF-501 host that I mount on top of a light airgun for shooting rats on a farm. I would love to find a smaller package to save weight and bulk…ideally something that runs off a single AA / AAA and has a smaller body.
I don’t need a lot of throw as I’m only illuminating out to 15 yards. I run it for 2 to 3 hours straight but swapping out a battery once would be fine if it came to that. My Princeton Remix headlamp (http://www.princetontec.com/remix) has 3 red leds and is not powerful enough - I mention this just as a comparison although I don’t know the lumens while running on the red led. So I need something at least 150% as powerful as this headlamp.
If twisty is ok a small AA light in which you can easily swap the LED is the thrunite saber 1A or a clone of it…(fasttech sells the spirit for below 20:money_mouth_face:
And as we are here in budget light forum, the cheapest solution is the wallbuys 3$ zoomie, I don’t have one yet but it is super cheap so it should be no fault to order it and swap in a red LED…
if you don’t mind modding a flashlight i think the xp-e Werner linked to would be a great led to swap to. and then either use a host you like, or try the wallbuys $3 flashlight.
otherwise i haven’t seen many flashlights with a red led for sale.

Hank from intl-outdoor said that a AA/14500 driver and an xp-g is included in the kit, so then it’s more like kit than just a host as it says on the website.
i’m thinking about equipping it with a red xp-e that i also ordered.
