Small sun ZY-T08 mod II - The Next Generation

Nice!!!

Looks beautiful! Very neat work, and apparently with minimal tools. I would have assumed that a mill was necessary. And all that mirror polish and smooth paint is on the inside.

Wow! Justin once tried to interest the forum in a contest to mod an existing light… This would have been a slam dunk winner.

Very VERY nice, all those details!
Awesome beamshots (and some nice trees you see there)
Maybe some sort of modding contest could be organised to follow up the build from scratch contest (though we already have a winner  )

great work . do you have a link to the reflector you are using

Thanks guys for your comments :+1:  .

Of course.

Emitter hole is only 8mm. You need to make it wider to fit the XHP-70. Also the base is flat so you have to grind enough aluminum so that it doesn’t shorten the led wires. Luckily, there is enough “meat” to grind, it is pretty thick at the bottom.

Do you have a picture of your dremel setup? You do great work and yet it looks like you do not have any extravagant equipment.

He says “dremel” but also says it’s a milling bit (end mill?) mounted in a drill press which the picture shows, looks like it could be a Bosch.

Very very nice&big job, well done!
I have thinked many and many time to pull the trigger on the Small sun ZY-T08 because it is a very nice torch and I like so much the form factory…but I’m not able to do anything you doit so well :person_facepalming:

May can I ask you a little more of work? When you can/if you can, do you can make a small video? A coupple of minutes will be enough, because on Youtube the Smallsun is missing (only a very short&poor video) to show the power&beauty of this light. Thanx again! :+1:

Maybe my English isn’t so good and it looks confusing so I apologize for that. Electric tools used in all my builds are bench drill, simple dremel tool which you can buy for $20 and bench grinder. I buy affordable drill bits (like the one in picture No. 30) mainly from Banggood and use them for drilling, grinding and dremeling. Rest is done using hand tools like all kinds of hand files, scissors for metal etc. As you can see these are all common hobby tools that every average workshop have. Wish I had a lathe, things would be much simpler but I don’t have a place for it. It is a small workshop in my basement.

Yes, it is a Bosch, my workhorse.

Hello Manx,

I never thought about making the video review. It would be a whole new ball game for me. If I get the chance/time I’ll try :+1:
