Hi there, obviously by the topic I’m new here lol. I did in fact purchase the BLF a6 flashlight and let me tell you, joy all day long. I work in the plumbing and hvac industry and that little burner lights up basements. What I’m curious about is comparable flashlights to the BLF a6? I feel like none exist because it’s so great!
I want to order 2 more of the blf a6 in fear of it breaking and I have back ups. Where do I start modding? Should I buy backup cree bulbs? I tried browsing the forum for answers but my head is spinning… any help would be great!
I just got my second A6. I got the original in black with a 3D tint and just received my bare aluminum version with a 5A tint. I love the 5A tint and the bare aluminum. So you could definitely get more A6’s in different tints and finishes (or the Astrolux S1, which is essentially the same thing and available in black, blue, or red). In fact, list price of the black A6 is $23.99 right now and you could use points to potentially take 15% off, getting down to $20.39. Also you could try getting the short tube and some 18350 batteries. Lots of options.
Don’t need to buy backup bulbs because they don’t really wear out. They will be obsolete long before they burn out. Modding is always a possibility. I put a XP-L HI LED in my black A6 and I love the tighter hotspot. It wasn’t that hard of a mod to to swapping out one LED for another (I bought a LED already mounted to a base).
One reason not to get the same light is they are always coming out with better flashlights, so it never hurts to wait and see what else comes out. But if you really do like the light, sure, buy more.
Unless you want to start building or modding some lights you don't need to order parts.
As you see, one flashlight is not enough. For working there is a slew of lights to choose from. If you like the power you're getting out of your A6 then maybe try an X6 or X5 or both. They've got a more advanced UI but very similar as both are written by ToyKeeper.
If you like the A6 you could always buy more but in regards to ending up without...that will not happen. Any S2 or S2+ with a 17DD driver and any emitter mounted on copper board from Mountain will do the same. 2 solder points and done :)
Last, as mentioned, if you have the 1A tint..try a warmer emitter like an A6 with a 5A . You may like a warmer tint.
If you buy more and more, you may end up like me; whereby BLF X5, X6, Convoy S2, S2+, 1A, 3C, 2A…… Dedomed, Direct Drive, triple, Quad……etc. And now going for high CRI - Nichia 219B. Where I find high CRI is simply the best for my welding inspection job for ID of a pipe or hollow section in any situation. I just bought and changed many of my lights to Nichia 219B 5700k which you can buy from Aliexpress @ $2.20 / pc, with 16mm DTP.
Reminder, the output lumens of 219B is only 1/2 compared with CREE XP-L, and not suitable for direct-drive (turn bluish). I use 1.5~2A for each or them. Astrolux S41 or Manker E14 may be good options
After rereading your post..have you considered a headlamp?
If you like "power"...look at the new ArmyTek Wizard XHP50 from Illumn.com (CalvinIS does have a thread for a group buy code). I know I like mine :)
If the ArmyTek seems more than you want I would recommend one of the Skilhunt headlamps..either H02 or H15 (both have TIR which to me is nice indoors and I have codes for both) or the Xtar H3.
@Audimac69 i know how you feel. Just got my Astrolux S1 last week and I cannot seem to get my hands off it, let alone stop playing with it. Though I am not new to the flashlight world, I have several lights, the S1 is the first flashlight I have that is over 500 lumens, and it’s configurable modes are simply the best. My girlfriend loves it too (she bought for me as a gift and she wants one for her self…) haha.
