Maybe initially but over time and use they could fail and under regular circumstances they would probably be fine. The chance of failure is much higher than if its sealed behind threads and an o-ring though. Ive had moisture behind the sp40 cap and so I use the light for things where I dont care if it goes out… basically I wouldnt take it as my primary light on an outdoor adventure. On the other hand my Convoy H1 has held up perfectly through my tests and ill take it canyoning, caving, mountaineering with only a much smaller light as a backup (not caving though thats always two full backups). I would feel inclined to take a full size backup with the sofirn at all times during hard use activities. I also love the 10c lockout on the convoy, it is great for throwing the light in my bag with a tail lockout, then guaranteed it wont turn on.
My request would be the HS10 in a 18350 version running Anduril and a clip on headband instead of the rings. I prefer headlamps in the smaller form factor as 18650 lamps are just too heavy when you’re hiking unless it’s on a helmet. Even walking around at the campsite I find 18650 headlamps to be bothersome. My 18650 headlamp/right angle light is relegated to home use like when I’m working on the car and such…
The HS10 tube would need to be only 2mm thicker and 1mm longer to accept 18350. That wouldn’t add much to size nor weight, but battery life could potentionally be ~75% better. And one can still use lighter 16340 cells if necessary.
A 18350 HS10 with Anduril 2 and 519A at its current price point would be a great seller, I think. Add AUX for some bling and it’s almost like a headlamp version of the TS10! Btw, the HS10 fresnel and the TS10 TIR are similar in diameter and are non-functionally interchangeable…
My dream is Sofirn HS20-style but with higher intensity. I think I’d want at least 100 kcd on the throw and a high CRI with flood, it has to be with a well defined flood pattern, preferably not as wide like the HD20.
HS10 with Anduril would be my new edc for sure. I find right angle lights to be the most flexible as it can be set on its side and aimed with the pocket clip in a way out the front lights can’t.
I’d be interested in an 18500 headlamp with 519a and instant access to low and high modes. Either right angle or something like the TH20… I am torn between on-board charging and good IPX water resistance.
I’m loving the HS10. It has some annoyances that would be fixed with Anduril (mode levels, ramping way too slow). I really like using it as a worklight. Having a right angle head and strong tail magnet makes it super useful for task lighting. I put a 519a 3500k in mine.
Some suggestions:
-Make the charge indicator light dimmer (or better yet controlled by Anduril).
-Make it easier to swap in and out of the head band.
-Offer an 18xxx version. I think the 16340 is great for a headlamp as it keeps the weight down. For my tastes an 18350 probably wouldn’t be too heavy to wear and it would give a significant capacity boost. An 18650 would work well for a right angle workloads.
I’ve been very impressed with Sofirn lately. Keep up the great work!
I’m with you, James. The HS10 is fantastic for what it is. 16340 is viewed as obsolete but it won’t be long before the 21mm or whatever next short battery is comes along and tries to displace all the 18350 lights.
It’ll never end. Battery lasts long enough for me to change 81 filters on the roof units at work so no complaints.
That said: I’d also buy an 18650 (with 18350 tube) headlamp with Anduril. Honestly, as much as I love flashlights you can only get so much work done one-handed. Headlamps are for doing things.
USB-C charging on HS10 is quick and just shy of 4.2V. Port cover is perfection. Wouldn’t mind an even floodier option.
Also: the little strip of something on the inside of the headband is so helpful, please keep using it. Keeps it in place on my baldish head and helps on the hardhat.
Yes, Anduril is overkill for headlamps but the basic UI would be fine. Some folks use them off the band and might enjoy some candlelight or disco effects.
Looking forward to new offerings. Will use my old Micro-USB versions as gifts to potential flashoholics.
I’d be interested from Sofirn
Anduril or stepless ramping AA or AAA powered smaller and light as possible.
Emitter Nichia 519A warm white on the center of body, different degree Tir Lens included on kit.
Total absence of PWM, and 0,01LM at start of ramp (slow at begin and no blinking)
Max output don’t need to be so high for my scope.
Also a Driver upgrade with Anduril for my SP40 host would be nice…
Yes please, take the SP-10 Pro driver electronics, drop it into a HS05, and I’d preorder at least two of them. No need to change anything else, but maybe put in a 519A and have an option for a floodier beaded TIR optic. I wouldn’t mind a SP40 varient with Anduril as well, but the driver would have to be pretty efficient to replace my Skilhunt H04 Mini.
I Like the HS40. The only issue is the charging port as its easy for the rubber grommet to dislodge and allow water to get in (which it has done to one of my lights). I’d like to see either the type of USB-C socket used water proof (similar to what phone use today) or a redesigned water proof cover ie” unscrew the cap to reveal the USB-C socket.
I do find the headband with rings difficult and would prefer a “C” clip to clip it in place or easily remove.
