Sofirn C8F host. 21700 C8F Available

It’s just that I don’t like all the groupings, set to specs that aren’t what I am normally used to. And since I like Anduril so much, that is what I will go with in virtually any e-switch light. Yes, I will typically change a MOSFET to the one I find works best, but I don’t expect the manufacturer to go to great lengths to find all the components that I myself went to great lengths to find. So I expect to change things to suit my own needs… which, contrary to the normal conception that it is my purist or hard core inner flashlight self it is more a simplistic approach. My memory is horrid! I can’t be expected to remember new groups and programmings on lights, I have over 200 after all! So I try to keep it simple and stick with what I know.

I Love ToyKeeper for what she has done for us here, I use her UI drivers as much as I possibly can. A loyalist, more than a purist.

Glad to hear that ,any single LED version ?

Only in the 18650 version AFAIK.

Okay, I think it’s good that people know there is nothing inherently “wrong” with this new driver or UI.

It should definitely be better than the old one which was one click on and press and hold to turn off. Now that would be a mandatory driver swap for me. Lol. It also didn’t have ramping of any kind.

I haven’t heard all the details on the new 21700 C8F, but it should be one click on/off, press and hold to cycle through the brightness levels. Then the ramping should be very similar to Narsil in functionality.

I’m definitely buying this new one. I should be able to use it stock.

I think regular flashlight users will like it stock.

I wonder if there is any way we can have the full ramp instead of just part of it?

Group 4 Ramping 1 to max.

What more could you want. Covers evreything with NO complications.
Preferably a ramp UP and DOWN hey.

I love all the different lights. but can NOT get my head round all this useless switching.
Zillions of the bloody things.

On-Ramp up/down-OFF. With maybe a Turbo on a double click. Perfect.
With maybe interchangeable Reflectors. SM /OP. to widen the spread a bit.
That’d cover 94% of all needs for normal persons?. Even us hey.

I’m into the torches. not so much the switching.

Jason. No 4.
Ramping 1 to 1800. with double click to 3500 Turbo.
sounds more sensible to me. More controllable with less heating.

Ramp top is not adjustable. 1800 lumen is safe and sustainable output in this light with some warming. Turbo is I think 3000 lumen will be in factory data but they measured 3500 on a prototype. Better than tell more and get less. Visually to the eye it is no t a huge jump from 1800 to 3000.
If they use this firmware in the SP70 I think there will be ramp top at about 4000 lumens and turbo about 6-7000. My XHP70.2 MF02 with Andúril is setted up ramp top at 4000 and turbo at 8-9000 depends on battery level and type.

Here is the complete menu:
4 mode Groups:
Group 1: 500lm
Group 2: 100lm—700lm—1800lm
Group 3: 10lm—100lm—500lm—1800lm
Group 4: Ramping from 1lm—-3500lm
In any mode, including OFF, hold 1 second to go to Moonlight
In any mode, Double-click to go to Turbo 3500lm, one click to go to the previous mod

Group 1/ Group 2/ Group 3:
Short click the side switch to cycle through modes: Eco→ Low → Mid→ High→ Eco→ Low→etc.
Press the side switch for 0.5 seconds to enter Standby (main led is off).
4 Four fast clicks convert from one group to the other, 2 blinks confirm the change.
Group 4: Ramping
Press and hold side switch to ramp up or down. Ramping changes direction when press button again within 1.5 seconds, same direction when ramping again after 1.5 seconds. The light blinks when it reaches Moonlight or Turbo. When the light is on, click to Standby.
No matter in which group:
Hold and press the side switch for 1 second to enter Moonlight from Standby, one click returns to Standby.
Double clicks to activate Turbo mode from On / Standby, one click returns to the last brightness used or Standby.
Triple clicks to activate Strobe mode from On / Standby, one click returns to the last brightness used or Standby.

Memory Function: The last brightness used can be memorized when convert from Group to Group. When it goes back to the group, it starts from the remembered brightness level.

OFF
Press and hold the side switch for 0.5 seconds to enter Standby (except in Ramping Mode).
Click the tail switch to Cut Off. Please click both tail switch and the side switch to turn on if the light was in Standby last time.

Advanced Temperature Regulation (ATR) technology:
If the head temperature reaches 50 ℃ (122 °F), the flashlight will automatically throttle down to lower mode to avoid overheating

I kind of like the ramp to 50% instead to max so I can easily access that mode knowing the lumens can be maintained for a much longer period than turbo. That’s how TA setup the default ramping on the MT09R and MT03 that he modded for us and it was perfect.

Switching perfect I reckon at that.
with a 26650 battery it’d be even better.
But I’m just a 18650/26650battery person. the lesserer the betterer.
Plus the 26650 is perfect fit for my hands.
Mate is milling up a small block of ally to have female end to suit 26650 tube end.
With a male threaded top end to fit into Ultrafire head thread.
Maybe…

He’ll share a bottle of my10yr old Taliskers with me tomorrow watching Cowboys game
to pay for it
He split a bottle of Glenlivet Founders reserve with me on Thurs,
watching the Bronco’s win over e thbunny’s.
both of those are 46 proof. Ice mix only.

Missus shouting me half her ltr bottle of Baily’s with ice
for the Melbourne game tonight. With a large packet of Licorice Allsorts to flavour it with.

One of the problems with that is that “50%” varies depending on the battery level.

IdK, I guess I’d have to try it. I think the GT and GT mini ramped to 80% and that was fine. 50%, IDK.

Are you saying the group 1-4, non ramping, is still one click on and press and hold for off?

I worked with Sofirn for a long time to avoid that on the SP70 user interface. I’m kind of surprised to see they didn’t carry it over to the new C8F. I really thought they would.

Is Sofirn planning to produce the C8F in a color other than black?

Water not ice for me, please. I’ll bring Ardbeg for some tail spring bypass

Now I’m confused. I thought you said it only ramps up to 1800 lm earlier?

Being spoiled to TK’s immaculate set-up, I have found the Sofirn ramping painful to use. Slow, enough different that it bothers my “purist sensibilities” :stuck_out_tongue:

Lol purist, loyalist, enthusiast, old forgetful man, I meant nothing bad by it! Quite the opposite even

Yeah yeah yeah, I’m a lot of things but I’ll still be a Toys-R-Us kid long after the store is forgotten… lol (even after I’VE forgotten it!)

I’ve been eyeing C8F for some time, so any update is welcome even if it’s not using latest UI.

You can get the 18650 version with the old UI or wait for the new 21700 version which should have the new UI.

Does anyone know if Sofirn also plans to update their other C8 flashlights (C8S, C8T, ...) for the 21700 battery size?
