The Sofirn HS22 is a fantastic headlamp that I think is only really missing one thing. As always let me know what you think!
Thanks for the review! I have this headlamp too and am really happy about the floodlight quality. It has this “wow that’s bright!” feeling in it.
I bought the lamp for trail running at night. Single emitter headlamps tend to have so weak hotspots that you get an annoying “wall of darkness”. The separate throw led mostly fixes that problem.
I think this lamp has one major problem: Thermal regulation - or rather the lack of it. Turbo stepdown is not based on temp, it is a timed stepdown after rougly 2minutes.
So - the lamp delivers good light - but only for 2 min at a time.
The stepdown from 1500+ lumens to ~600lm is fast and really noticeable in real life. 600lm feels weak and dim compared to what the light is really capable of.
In my use, (< 10°C, good airflow), the turbo does not heat up the light significantly. I am able to re-activate the turbo directly after stepdown, and still it does not get too hot. I highly wish that sofirn had put in actual thermal regulation, or even temperature based stepdown. With that, the headlamp would have been a beast.
Propably some other might like the stepdown as “power saving” feature. But for me it is a turnoff. After the stepdown my older sp40 beats this light on every metric.
