Sofirn IF30 Review (No Talking - 4 Min) Rotary Switch, 12,000 Lumens

4 Thanks

Thats a cool looking light. Nice to see the use of these bigger batteries.

Came in at $65.79 of your US dollars with a discount code I found online. Seemed a decent enough price for something truly different, so I pushed the button on one.

Nice

I hope you took note of the pinned comment about my discovery of the 32650 battery Sofirn are bundling? I own a CBA and was wanting to run discharge tests to see how it performed, so I asked Sofirn for the datasheet, what I found was unsettling. The 32650 used in the IF30 has a maximum continuous discharge rating of only 6.5A, the IF30 is drawing up to 37A on turbo. My contact showed me a series of pulse tests they conducted up to 30A and concluded it was “safe”.

You can’t know from one pulse test that the cell is safe to be continuously used over and over at a current way above the manufacturer’s discharge spec. Sofirn can’t be trusted when it comes to lithium safety, they don’t seem to take things seriously.

1 Thank

That looks like a fun combination! I wonder if there are high drain 32650 cells available.

I didn’t, I watched the video in situ here and not on YouTube. Thank you for notifying me, it is indeed unsettling that Sofirn are building a high drain device and coupling it with a battery that isn’t designed to power it. Except in size, and maybe here lies the problem. I don’t know of many lights, or other devices, that use a 32650, there aren’t a lot of these cells around as far as I know.

I’ve sent an email to Sofirn, I’ll see how they respond. Do we have a Sofirn rep here?

Edit:

Ah, yes we do. @Sofirn

Gone…

Yeah, because the first batch is limited, everyone must wait for mass production now.

Ah ok, that’s me all paranoid about the battery :scream:
