Sofirn LT1 Mini with stepped tint ramping...

Not sure if it has been mintioned before, but my new Sofirn LT1 Mini has a stepped tint ramp mode…
If I reduce brightness to minimum, then adjust tint, it is stepped! All other brightness levels and it is smooth tint ramping.

It’s the limited resolution of the channels. When the output is low, there’s just not enough resolution to make it smooth.

What @SammysHP said.

If you have 3 integer units of brightness to distribute between 2 colors of LED, there are only 4 ways to do it:

  • 3 + 0
  • 2 + 1
  • 1 + 2
  • 0 + 3

So there would be 4 steps.

More generally, brightness level N can have up to N+1 steps. So it’s smooth when bright, and coarse when dim.

Welcome on BLF man, have a good one !

I see. So more steps as brightness goes up, and fewer steps as brightness goes down. And at low brightness setting there is not enough steps for smooth ramping, so I get a stepped tint ramp.

But as brightness goes up I get more and more steps with increasing smoothness. And highest brightness will have the most steps for the best smoothness, and also the most variable tint ramp.

Interesting!
Thanks!

Btw there is a patch for Anduril that adds stepped tint ramping. With it you can choose how many steps it should have or whether it should be “smooth” (like it is right now). But it can’t make it any smoother as it is in the official version.
