I just purchased the Sofirn LT1S lantern and I would like magnetic tailcap or some kind of neodymium magnet disc in the tailcap. Could you recommend some elegant option? I love the lantern, this is the only negative thing about it. I looked everywhere and could not find anything. Thanks in advance for all suggestions.
Thank you! I wish I would have 3D printer…
I posted this on Reddit a while back. Maybe it will help somebody…
I used the D7H1 magnets from K&J Magnetics. I had only 8 so I tried that. .Well, 8 was real marginal. I added one of these under the spring. The lantern would still slide on the side of my refrigerator when mounted horizontally. But vertically was no problem. Other surfaces not as slick as the refrigerator would work horizontally.
I have room for two more of the D7H1 magnets. I ordered and will add them when I get them.
I just got this stuff today. I traced the bottom of the light and cut a circle. Put it on… well the lantern does not slide down when mounted to the side of the refrigerator now. The material is quite grippy. Time will tell whether the adhesive lasts and if the rubber picking up debris limits its effectiveness over time. But so far, I like it.
I still will add the additional two D7H1 magnets when I get them. BTW, I think there is room for 11 of them around the circumference of the cap and one under the spring. I did not mount mine close enough together so I can only get 10 in there. But with the D83-N52 magnet in the center, I think the configuration will be quite secure in any mounting orientation.
You will likely be OK if you can get 12 of the D7H1 magnets in there. (11 around and one in the center under the spring).
BTW, I just glued them in with super glue. I set the cap on a magnetic material (baking pan). This would hold the magnets in place while the glue dried. I only had to hold them for 30 seconds.
