Sofirn SC29

The Sofirn SC29 is a new compact 21700 sized general purpose light. The SC29 features the Cree XHP50 emitter in cool white, which is rated for 3000 lumens on turbo. The beam profile is very large hotspot with minimal spill that to the unique TIR optic. The TIR optic and emitter used gives the light a very floody beam profile. This emitter is known for some tint shift but the unique TIR optic does a great job at eliminating most of the tint shift in the beam. Included in the package is an 5000 mah 21700 battery, usb c cable, lanyard, and the pocket clip. I like how the pocket clip is not dual directional and has a good lip to get over the pocket. The tail cap is also magnetic which is a plus to see in this 21700 light.

The SC29 features onboarding charging via usb c, which is very convenient and easy. The rubber flap is secure and slightly recessed and stays in place nicely. The side switch is made of soft rubber which is newer compared to other lights in their lineup. The switch also includes a small indicator to show battery status. The rubber switch is not prone to accidental activations since they recessed the switch slightly into the body of the light. The light design is simple with shallow ribbing along the tube and three large cooling fins on the head. It’s a fairly simple tube light but the aesthetics are good. Sofirn has updated their anodization to make it more matte compared to a shiny finish. Overall the feel of the anodization is more premium feeling with the matte texture.

The UI is straightforward Sofirn, a single press turns the light onto the last memorized mode. A long press from off is moonlight, hold while on cycles through low, medium, high, and a double click activates turbo. There is no automatic lockout, instead you click the switch 3 times to activate and deactivate lockout mode. The moonlight mode which is rated for 1 lumens. Low mode is rated at 30 lumens for 50 hours, medium mode is rated at 350 lumens for 6 hours, and high mode is rated for 1000 lumens. The Sofirn SC29 is a great budget option for those who are interested in a compact, floody, and simple to use general use light.

Things I like:

  • Floody beam profile
  • Magnetic tailcap
  • Compact size

Room For Improvement:

  • Low mode is too bright
