【Sofirn SP31V3 519a】 The prototype has come out!

flashlight or headlamp?

Flashlight please.

1 Thank

Already passed the idea to my boss :sunglasses: But what can a blue light or green light do?

1 Thank

Thank you! It would also be great if it has a great cri please. It is supposed to be a discreet flashlight that’s why I picked low lumen, but still has a 1,000 lumen option for quick defense, etc.

Blue and green light in flashlights have specific uses depending on the context, as they affect visibility and perception differently compared to white light:

Blue Light:

  1. Blood Tracking: Blue light is commonly used for hunting as it can help in tracking blood trails, making it easier to find injured game in low-light conditions.
  2. Map Reading: Blue light is less likely to affect night vision, so it’s used by military personnel or outdoorsmen for reading maps or documents in the dark.
  3. Tactical Uses: Blue light can also help in identifying certain substances, such as fluids or stains, and is sometimes used in crime scene investigations.
  4. Fishing: Blue light attracts some types of fish, making it useful for night fishing.

Green Light:

  1. Night Vision: Green light is easier on the eyes than white light and preserves night vision better. It’s often used in tactical and hunting scenarios for stealth and to avoid startling wildlife.
  2. Wildlife Observation: Many animals cannot see green light, making it useful for observing wildlife without disturbing them.
  3. Astronomy: Similar to red light, green light is used in astronomy to preserve night vision while reading star charts or adjusting equipment.
  4. Long-Range Visibility: Green light can be seen from a distance and is less likely to scatter in the atmosphere compared to other colors, making it useful for signaling.

Both blue and green lights are specialized tools in a flashlight, chosen for specific applications where their unique properties are advantageous.

Thank you so much for the explanation! ! Actually we have a new mini flashlight that has both red light and white light ( sorry that I forget to add in the post)

Beautiful design! Excited to hear about the specs in the future.

Please let me know that the engineer says, and if indeed it has flashing pads, sign me up for one right away!:+1:

I strongly second that. Flashing pads should be considered essential in any and all enthusiast-oriented lights.

First time I hear about Epistar LEDs. How good are they, compared to the Nichias, Luminuses and Crees?

Astronomy: Similar to red light, green light is used in astronomy to preserve night vision while reading star charts or adjusting equipment.

I’m an amateur astronomer and have never used green light for this, only red.

Will try it next time I’m out observing and not caring too much about losing dark eye adaptation, but I can say right away that, at least in general, this is not accepted practice in the community and, even if it works, is going to get you ejected real fast out of collective arrangements like star parties.

I would like to add another use for green light:

  1. insect avoidance: when you’re out in nature, green light attracts a lot less bugs than white light, including mosquitoes.
3 Thanks

That’s a literal “green light means go” situation if that happens. :joy:

It seems green and red share a number of useful qualities. Thank you dmenezes for sharing.

sounds fun… and expensive?

I would love to hear your thoughts… please keep us posted dmenezes…

1 Thank

The possible advantage is that you can adjust the green light to be much dimmer and still see something (because our eyes are most sensitive to green).

1 Thank

Rods are much less sensitive to (deep) red light than to other colors. That means that using red light will primarily stimulate the red cones and preserve dark adaptation of the rods. Green light does not only stimulate the green cones, but also the rods to some degree.

Hello, I missed this post. Is there any more info on this prototype

1 Thank

This mini flashlight(SR20 mini) will most likely be launched in Nov. end or early Dec. Once we release it on BLF, you will be able to see detailed information first. Stay tuned~

Did the SP31V3 519a actually get released? I can’t find it on Sofirn’s website.

Popped up today in AE’s suggestions
