Sofirn SP35T Review

Hello! This review is about the new SP35T from Sofirn flashlights. I’ll start with a basic overview and then I’ll give you my opinion on the light as well as a buying recommendation.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

In the box there is the light, an instruction manual, a lanyard, 1 extra O-ring, and a USB→USB-C cable.

BASIC OVERVIEW

Starting from the front of the light, there is an orange peel reflector, and within that reflector is a Cree XHP50 emitter which is a huge upgrade from the luminous sst-40’s that they usually use. With this emitter they claim an output of 3800 lumens. Moving back on the light there is the mode switch on the side. (I will go through the interface later in the review) The switch is very clicky and has a small LED inside as a battery charge indicator. Just the standard green/red. Opposite the switch is the rubber boot that covers the USB-C charging port, giving this light an IPX-8 water resistant rating. Moving back is the midsection of the light which is not reversible, but has very nice knurling on it. The knurling is very grippy without being aggressive which my pockets appreciate. The battery inside is a Sofirn branded 21700 cell. On the cell they claim 5000mAh with a 50A discharge. Attached to the midsection is the 2 way deep carry pocket clip. While the clip does not completely conceal the light, it is perfectly fine in my opinion. All the way at the end of the light there is a hole for a lanyard, as well as the on/off switch for the light.

USER INTERFACE:

This light has 2 switches, but it is very simple to use. The rear switch only turns the light on while the side switch controls the modes.

OPINIONS:

THE GOOD

  • Very bright
  • Nice tactile switches
  • Good beam profile
  • Good tint (by my estimation is around 6000K which is good for tactical lights)
  • Good knurling
  • A charger is included in the box
  • The light is rechargeable
  • Has a battery indicator
  • Simple to use
  • Quick access to turbo
  • The light stays relatively cool when running for long durations
  • Comes with an extra O-ring
  • Comfortable to use
  • The light can tail stand
  • Minimal branding
  • Budget friendly ~$30 with a battery

THE BAD

  • No quick access to strobe mode
  • The pocket clip is too long and can be hard to get in the pocket sometimes

BUYING RECOMENDATION:

Overall I would recommend this light to someone who is looking for a tactical or purpose built light. This would be a good light for law enforcement or short to medium range situations. It is very bright while maintaining a small form factor. I especially like that they used a 21700 cell instead of an 18650, as it keeps the heat down.
