The SP60 easily beats the SP70, although I no longer have one to show in the video. Very impressive beam on it, but loads of bugs and sometimes overcharges to 4.28v. Surprise, surprise it uses an unregulated driver which really sucks. I feel like Sofirn don’t really care too much these days, their name is out there and they don’t even advertise new models either, they just appear on the website.
Wow. That’s bad…I wonder if this model will see a recall for safety/liability reasons. I always use a dedicated charger anyway, but it’s good to know that the onboard charging is to be avoided.
I’m with you on the regulated driver. I’m willing to pay more for models that have them.
I have one of these on the way, so thanks for the heads-up. Can’t wait to play with it!
Thanks for the review
I had my eye on one but was holding off to learn more about the driver. Sad to hear that they neutered a great host design with a disappointing driver.
How is the construction? Is it all glued? Wondering if someone would coax a better driver into this light.
The host isn’t glued anywhere, just the driver.
I activated turbo just before I ended the High test since it was just going to track almost the same as turbo.
Tested the M21G and L21B specially to include everything in the review. Shows how crap the TS30S Pro really is.
Thank you for the nice review and great comparison! I noticed excellent, non greenish tint for Sofirn SP60? Personally and judging from this beam shot I would prefer Sofirn’s XHP70.3 to the one in Convoy M21G, which looks more yellow & slightly more greenish to my eyes.
I wonder if this same XHP70.3 LED is available in a single battery Sofirn?
Thanks for the comparison. Extremely helpful. Looks like only Convoy uses boost driver. Look how well it regulates the output. Perfectly flat lines. The Sofirn and Wurkkos uses the cheap drivers.
In that case…i wouldn’t say it ‘beats’ the SP70 which was made when Sofirn was trying to establish themselves as a major player in the maeket. It had a better driver, better sustainably, and no charging to speak of. It doesn’t even compete with that Convoy. Sad really.
If you increase the thermal limit on the TS30S Pro it doesn’t do too bad, bit again, an unregulated driver onboard.
