Solarforce clones

Love this light ! 150 yards no problem, nice tight beam ……

@Mr. Crabs- Yeah I already have an xtar wp2 charger, I decided to buy it when my cheap one started acting strangely and making the also quite dodgy 18650 cells very warm, thats why I was going to buy some legit trustfire cells, because they seem like good quality at a lower price. Does anyone know anything about trustfire 18650 cells?

@Kramer 5150- Nice! It’s like a dive torch but for shallower water levels! :open_mouth: Just curious, was it a lot of work to get it like that? Apparently my jetbeam should goto 1.5 meters deep, but I’m not brave enough to try because it’s not a cheaper unit, for my budget at least.

@Gurthang- So, for best throw i should look at getting an xre light? That would be cheaper and easier I think.

@Manny- That sounds like good news to me

Ok I’m going to take the advice I have been given and buy an xre light which will take a single 18650 cell. Can anyone tell me out of these two which would be the better buy if throw is the focus of the light:

SJ,

I’d say its a toss-up, both look to have the same size reflectors. One of the best budget throwers is the HS-801 or HS-802.

Both use the higher output R2 emitter

Both of those lights are great throwers for the price.

The 801 was considered a throw monster a few moons ago, only the advent of the XPG and XML emitters made it fall from favor but it can still go toe-to-toe w/ newer lights for distance but it lacks the massive output of the XML.

WOW, how come it’s a $10 price jump from an xre q5 to an xre r2? By my calculations for the same result you could by one of the q5’s and an r2 led drop in or chip and make it into an xre r2….

hmm…. sounds like the extra output and throw is worth looking for, if you can find any cheaper units with an r2 please post a link to them

EDIT:
Found one, any reputation held by small sun? Thoughts?

The Jacob A60 is the brightest Q5 XR-E single 18650 flashlight that I know of for the money. Not even the Small Sun C10 will touch it.

I just bought one of these. It ought to be a good one. Runs off of 2 18650 batteries and it’s got a big head like the Jacob A60.

That looks awesome and ticks all of the boxes! Do you have it yet? Beamshots?

Not yet. I’m hoping it will be brighter than the Jacob A60.

I posted some pictures of the Jacob A60 on here.

It’s in the thread Ledsmoke posted about the Jacob A60.

I was talking to rikr last nite on the phone and he told me that his T40CS clone he bought is giving his FandyFire STL-V6 all it wants for throw. You might want to check it out. I should be getting mine this week.

Yeah, I saw some of the pics of the Jacob A60, it looked like a very good unit. With 2x 18650 it should be getting more power and thus emit more light, but then again that may only be the case in theory and not practice…. Are you expecting it soon? Post here when you get it and with some beamshots, i will be eager to see how it throws in comparision to the jacob A60

Will do. Yea according to selfbuilt on at least the lights that I have seen him test vs 1 or 2 18650 batteries, the lights are brighter with 2 18650’s.

Yeah, I would imagine that they should be, the possible limitation would be the wiring and maybe the driver. Like from what I understand, if they used really low capacity wire then the batteries full potential would not be used therefore making the light dimmer than what it could be. Hopefully these lights are the exact opposite and have huge power and throw

In theory a 2x 18650 [or any 2 cell or more light] can have a higher output. As you correctly point out SJ, there are limitations due to wiring, driver and even emitter heat sinking. A 2 cell light can sustain high output longer as there is less voltage sag. Emitters are somewhat self limiting as output drops with temperature until pushed so far that you get “angry blue” light then its “Goodnight Gracey”. Hope your search is productive and you find the light that you want.

I thought so  My search is looking fairly productive so far, just waiting on ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS to give me his review of the small sun, if he says good things I will own one in a few weeks(takes a while to get anything all the way to Australia). Then I just need to organise some kind of camping trip where I can see what all my lights can do in total darkness because unfortunately where I live there are street lights right near my house so all lights look a little unimpressive, but you get one hell of a surprise when you turn them on in total darkness and see what they can really do

That’s funny. Solarforce clones! Are we talking about clones of clones?

Due to my mistake, we were… But I was also wrong about the clones of clones, so therefore we also weren’t… Madness
