If you are using this product in an e-cigarette or vape pen, please stop immediately. For further information on the appropriate use of these products, please contact Sony.
Depends on the wattage your vaping at I guess. That looks to me like a cover our butts email. When something does happen, they can say we sent you the email. You could always have a malfunctioning device.
I am NOT a vaper but from what I have been told and have heard, these companies[Sony, Samsung, Panasonic/Sanyo ect.] have to say that because they do not want to be liable if anything happens. Technically they are ALL suppose to be used in battery packs and were Not made for our flashlights either.
Yes I wondered about that. I don’t vape and bought these batteries to compare to 30Q’s. If Sony limit the use of their batteries for vaping it might be possible they will do so for flashlights as well.
It’s well know that Sony doesn’t like people using their cells for vaping. They have been sending CYA letters for years. Too many incidents of people putting 18650 in their pockets together with keys and spare change and then suing the manufacturer because their unprotected cells for industrial use are not foolproof.
They are doing this to protect themselves, because some people are just ignorant in regards to battery safety, or worse, stupid.
I’ve seen so many incidents in regards to people leaving cells, be it AA or 18650 lithium ion, in their pockets with keys and coins, and then short them out, which gets them to 100°C, and then burns their leg.
Its Sony being typicial Sony they don’t want a liability issue. The cells them selves say do not use if unprotected. Some thing in line with that.
Interesting story Sony invented the first portable music mp3 player never released it because of liability issues ended up Samsung released the iriver mp3 player under the iriver company for liability issues lol. Plus i guess Sony owning Sony music it would be a lose lose situation.
For vaping, IMR, INR, etc battery are safer than it is said because all those batteries have a maximum continuous discharge current but when vaping you draw short puffs = pulse discharge current.
Mooch has done pulse discharge test with Sony VTC6 up to 60A :
The Sony VTC5 datasheet give a max continuous discharge current from 20A to 30A (with a 80°C temperature cut ) :
But a pulse draw at 80A won’t blow your face as long as it is shorter than 9 seconds:
The most important point is to let the battery rest between each pulse. I won’t do it but it would be quite safe to vape @ 50A with a Sony VTC5 with short puffs of 5 seconds as long as you let the the battery rest for 10 or 20 seconds between each puff.
As the VTC6 isnt ventilated greatly its not safe to use it in those hi power mech mods. VTC5A is the king there. Or, those new 20700 and 21700 elements.
yet, if you vape at arround or up to 10-12 amps like ido, 30k is kinda better canse its late revisions have a bit better capacity.
In my opinion, what the big cell manufacturers are trying to hint at the average Joe/Jane Sixpack is sort of the following declaration:
The battery cells you are using are industrial products, they're not meant to be used by uninformed consumers. On top of this, the counterfeit rates for this market are very high, and it is easy to find fake cells dressed with our names in their fake wraps being bought by wrong believed philistines. Therefore, we offer 0% warranties plus 0% any other whatever in this respect. Deal with this and have a nice day.
Their suitable, Sony just protecting themselves from the kids who do stupid things and don’t understand what Ohms Law is and why it’s important to know.
Still have a DNA 200 chip set in the box from Brandon at Evolv if someone is interested in a trade or cash.?
Hum, forgot to change my pic link URL, tipping my hand a bit to much … don’t click on that pic link… ha ha,
