If you have a local Metal Supermarkets, you may want to check with them. Here, the local prices are much lower than the on-line prices. Very well connected on a local level.
I dont think we have anything like that here, only lowes,HD, and i no the junk yard carries steel tubing but not copper rod
I just looked. Looks like only one in OH, in Cincinnati.
I’ve been using eBay, but not for such long lengths. It’s 100% possible that I’m missing out on some lower prices.
If you’ve got an amazon prime subscription, you can’t beat amazon supply - free shipping! That’s where I’ve been getting my copper rod. The stuff I’ve got is hard as crap though… Might want to try something a little more workable than their standard copper rod. They’ve got three or four different kinds of copper rod.
Have a look here and see what you think Copper bar stock
Have a blow torch? You could anneal it.
I know squat about metallurgy, but wouldn’t a 1.25” x 36” bar of copper absorb a tremendous amount of heat in order to anneal it?
Yea, I wouldn’t try a whole 36” bar.
Wondering why 3’ of the stuff? Expensive! The triple sink is .30” long, technically 3 per inch, so it’d only take less than 18” to make 50 sinks.
40” would technically make 30 of the quad sinks and 20 of the triples.
You might want to check your local metal recyclers. You’d be surprised what people would scrap for a quick buck.
I get my aluminum from here. Shipping is reasonable but they opened a location only 30 minutes from me :)
There is no great deals to have on any metals, even scrap yards know all too well what the day price is, world metal prices are updated more than once a day. You can pay too much for metals but you will not easily buy it under the current price.
I’ve been needing a small piece of copper for a heat-sink. Could anyone spare me a piece of round bar at least one inch diameter and about one inch long? Or even a square bar would be okay. I’ll pay for it, of course. I just don’t want to bother the online shops for one inch. If you have a piece that is more than an inch, that would be fine, too. I don’t need a really long piece. In fact, I really don’t even need an exact inch. Just under an inch would suffice. Anyone willing to help me?
they have copper round 110 H04 ??? with 10% off >>>>1.375"
No, 10% off is that they cut 10% off the rod ;-)
Have a look here and see what you think
From what I can tell, the prices on there are about 5% lower than what they are on amazon supply. What’s their shipping like? Really the only reason I’ve been using amazon supply is only applicable if you already have an amazon prime subscription.
Based on my experience, which is rather limited, I’d go for 145 instead of 110. I’ve been cutting and filing on one of these for a good while and it’s about worn me out. I’ve heated the absolute hell out of it (especially when cutting it with my metal chop saw), and it seems like it’s almost impervious to files. All files. Doesn’t hardly matter which one I use.
So round two I’ll spend $2.50 more and get 145 copper.
I didn’t see where nitro specified a diameter he needed… but said something about 1.375” above. Looks like amazon doesn’t have 1.375” in 145 but they have it in 110. It’s $162.57 for 1.375” x 36” with free shipping if you have amazon prime. In 145 copper closest sizes are 1.25” and 1.5”, which are $179.24 and $248.52, respectively for 36” lengths (also available with prime shipping).
