Given that it’s a battery case I don’t think that a lot can be said about it but here’s my impression of it.
It has a nice solid feel to it with no sharp edges or any visible flaws. The strap that holds the top to the body is the only thing that might catch in a pocket or backpack but that’s not a big deal.
No problem inserting any of my protected or double wrapped batteries into it.
Spicy mentioned that the cases aren’t considered waterproof but I didn’t find any water intrusion when I dumped it into bucket of water for 15 minutes, even when shaking it hard for a few minutes.
I tossed the case with a battery in it down a flight of terracotta stairs several times and there was no visible damage at all. Weirdly the top unscrew itself a little each time I did this and I’m not sure why that happened.
Final thoughts
It’s definitely a solid and well made case. It’s clearly intended to be used when a battery is needed to be protected when carrying it. To be honest when I’m traveling and feel the need to carry an extra battery i just bring along another flashlight. Besides having an extra battery I also have a flashlight in case my primary light is lost or stops working. Plus I don’t have to worry about replacing the battery when it’s dark, my hands are wet, etc. Replacing a battery is usually fast and a non-event but nothing is faster than just whipping out another flashlight
I think the case is useful for people who only want to carry a single flashlight and another battery. Those who fall into this category are probably backpackers, hikers, construction workers, etc. The case is extremely sturdy and would I feel protect the battery in it very well.
Hey thanks for the review! I agree that a 2nd light is a great way to store extra batteries!
Interesting point about the strap getting caught on things; I wonder if there’s a way I can mitigate that.
The choice to use a strap was a bit of a compromise. It makes the design more complicated and bulky, but losing the lid would make the rest of the body pretty much useless.
Well, the battery is in a protective case. And I think there are less acceleration forces in the vicinity of your core than in a flashlight that you are moving about in your “restless” arms.
Sorry, but I was not talking about dropping. I would use the battery case the same way I use lights. I’ve clipped lights to my backpack and my dog(s) for many years and I always use sturdy carabiners or snaphooks. Never had one falling off. Not even when the dog has her “mad minute” chasing ghosts in the bushes.
Great pic
My mistake, i thought you were talking about dropping.
In one if his vids @DB_Custom did wreck a battery from impact, though it was a very impactful test from a moving car.
