Can still use 'em with hotwire blubs like old-timey Minimags, etc., if they fit.
update 31/1/2026. The T3 I bought was problematic from the start. It wouldnāt turn on consistently - but would turn on while I was screwing in the tail. It was always fickle in this respect. I could do it up tight and get it to work fairly consistently, until the battery dropped down to about 60%, then it just wouldnāt work at all. It never worked with 1450 batteries. Just a pia that I gave up on. Luckily I also bought a nitecore HA11 UHE headlamp. This thing is amazing - Iām still running the original aa that it came with. Iāve only ever used the red lamp. Great head band, very easy to use, enough light for around the house at night time (in the red). I still would like a aa / 1450 red hand held. Iāve just discovered, and ordered, the sofirn st10. This thing gets great reviews. I have a couple of sofirn lights already and theyāre good quality. A big bonus with the st10 is the red light is on the side. I was using the T3 a fair bit as a lamp, by sitting it on itās tail. I can easily recommend the nitecore HA11 uhe. It is as light weight as it can get, very simple and effective, long lasting with a AA battery. Hereās a technical review I found on the Sofirn ST10 I found; itās auto dubbed from Russian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrM_BzV6KOA
The T3 issue you encountered sounds like a case of loose retaining ring, on either the driver side or switch side. See if you can tighten them.
Thanks for that feedback. I pulled apart both ends. It seemed more likely to be the tail end because thatās where it would intermittently turn on while I was undoing or doing it up. I did that retaining ring up snug - I actually have a collection of circlip pliers. I also checked out connectivity with a volt meter - but I only have basic knowledge. Enough to confirm the switch was working. Top end looked good (again, with my limited knowledge). Other than the connectivity issue there are also the problems of not working with 14500 batteries and the pathetic AA power issue (not working when AA reaches around 60%).
I can also recommend the Wurkkos hd50 21700 headlamp. Weāre on holiday and the bathroom doesnāt have a heat lamp, so Iām using the headlamp red light while having a shower and everything else till I go to bed. This headlamp is also awesome recommendation for those seeking red. It remembers the last light and setting Iāve used - red low. Just one click to turn it on and I have red low which is perfect for around house, showering etc. And, if red was the last light used, I can hold down power switch to turn it on and it will start in red moonlight.
