Was after a more throwy lamp than my 2 solarforce L2 models [one R2, one XML]
On advice bought a C8 XML ... lovely and bright, but too floody [made it hard to focus on hotspot] .. wanted a bit more throw and less flood.
Further advice, told a HS-802 is what im needing.
So .... got a HS-802 in R2 flavour.
Nice nice lamp .. wow, what a tight hotspot! minimal flood/spill too. Almost exactly what i want/need in a 'one size fits all' lamp
Notice 'almost' ... ok, to my aging tired eyes, the R2 fades out at about 150 yards ... yea the beam is going further, but it's too dim/tinty for me to make out objects much beyound that. The minimal spill is also just a tad too limited.
SO .... does anyone make a HS-802 with an XML? Im guessing this would have a bit more spill and have a far brighter hotspot at R2 range, whilst still having almost identical tight narow beam?
Or failing that ... is there a single 18650 lamp out there with HS-802 type beam but using a XML?
Thanks for all your advice so far fella's - you boys are legend
In an XM-L, the wider the reflector the better the flow, or so it has proven. If you want an XM-L thrower you have to go bigger, not smaller. I am thinking that a Trustfire X9 might be just what the doctor ordered. It's a single 18650 cell light that throws extremely well and far but still has some useful spill for general purpose use. I am sure others will chime in with more options but the X9 has proven to be an outstanding light with quite a following here.
I agree. If more light is needed then the Trustfire X9 (or the Fandyfire HD2010) would seem the solution. However, the bottom line remains that neither will throw as far as an HS-802.
Come to think of it the Super Tactics MRV clone might also be worth grabbing. Its inexpensive, throws very well and provides more spill at the target. I have both it and a insanely well driven HS-802 clone and I suspect the Super Tactics might well be what you are looking for, Dave.
Technically they are but any XR-E emitter in a C8 sized reflector (exact same reflector in an MRV that is in C8) makes for a great thrower at a budget price.
Already owning a couple of XML lamps , i really want that sort of brightness, but nice hotspot at 200 yards or thereabouts ... reluctant to try another R2 [or lesser] lamp. The C8 XML would of been perfect if it had less flood/spill ... it was that causing me trouble 'looking' straight down the beam to hotspot,
How can having the 'all in one' perfect lamp be so hard lol?
Still ... my 'collection' is up to 4 now - and growing it seems
