Stuff you found again you thought was lost.

About ~6 yrs. ago during the COVID lockdown spasm I couldn’t find my favorite AA EDC Thorfire TG06S. I was certain it was in the house somewhere, as I hadn’t left for a few days but, mysteriously, it just wasn’t to be found. I bought a VGC TG06S from a BLF member to replace it. Only difference was, it didn’t have the well-earned 3+ yrs. of pocket patina.

Fast forward to 2 days ago. I’m mounting a motion-detect battery strip light in a cabinet under the eating utensil drawer. I removed the drawer to ease access to the inner side of the horizontal cabinet frame member under the drawer where I wanted to place the strip light. And there it was, in the drawer, tucked behind the silverware tray where it couldn’t be seen even when the drawer was opened to the stop. Had to remove the drawer to see behind the tray. I’m confounded at how it arrived there to begin with. Wife doesn’t know either, but she’s not a flashlight enthusiast, and so her position when it first went missing was, “Just use another one. You have so many…”.

The 14500 cell is <1.0v. , so it’s toast. But the light is undamaged & works fine as always.

I’ve found other stuff I thought was lost over the years, but my TG06S has been MIA by far the longest & was the most valued.

In college, I lost my Spyderco Delica. I had no idea at all where it could have gone, so I grudgingly replaced it after it didn’t turn up. About a year and a half later, I lost the second one. It was very frustrating, because it’s very rare for me to misplace things without at least having a general idea what happened.

The very next day a girl I was friends with called me to say her dog found my knife on the floor under her couch. I went over there to get it, and it turned out it wasn’t my new one, it was the original one I had lost. She had moved to a new apartment in the time between when it was lost and when she found it, it must have been stuck in the couch the whole time and finally shook loose.

A few days later, I ended up finding the newer one in the laundry too! I managed to hang onto both of them this time, and they were great EDC knives until I eventually retired them. I still have them in a drawer, but they aren’t in the carry rotation anymore.

I was looking for my collection of yaoi and yuri and it was all gone, so somebody must’ve taken it, and… Oh, wait, that wasn’t me. That was The Yaoi Girl. Never mind.

I had a container of UV dye that I wanted to use. Disappeared last year, no idea where it went, was almost gonna order some more. Practically tore the place apart looking for it, as I hadn’t even cracked it open yet, so ordering another one would’ve been retarded, as how often do you use that stuff anyway??

Today of all days, I go grubbing through a box to see if I have any bulb-sockets, and whaddya know, there it is, at the bottom of the box, living the good life.

I’m such an organized neat freak, that in my 42 years I had only lost 2 things that I can recall. A pair of nail clippers and a hoodie. The hoodie that I used to keep in the trunk of my car in my late teens/early 20’s just in case I needed it. One day I went into the trunk for something and it was no longer there. Blew my mind, where could it have been! Fast forwards like 3-4 years and Myspace became a big thing. I was browsing through some friends photos when all the sudden there’s a picture of some of my girl friends with a girl that was merely an acquaintance…wearing my hoodie! Still to this day I have no idea how she ended up with it, but I suppose you can say it was “found” The nail clippers, no idea!

:+1:

I had a knife that I really liked for EDC quite a while back. It was a Benchmade 350 by Mel Pardue in 154CM. It is lightweight and thin. Great for office carry. One day, I just couldn’t find the darn thing. I drove myself crazy looking for it. Even retracing my steps to a couple of businesses I had visited. I spent hours looking in under, and around everything in the house.

I finally gave up and bought a second knife of the same kind . This was sometime in May. Fast forward a full year. I was rototilling my vegetable garden. Keep in mind I had done this after harvest back in November. I hear the tiller hit something and stopped to check it out. Guess what, Well it was my lost knife. With a little cleaning and lube it turned out to be quite useable.

Bottom knife was the one that was lost. You can see the gouge caused by the tiller in the scale. Not bad for being buried maybe 6" in the ground with water and fertilizer being poured over it for at least 6 months. Then snow most of the winter…

Looks similar to the applegate-fairbairn folder. That thing is a tank though, you put it 6 deep, peed on its grave and it still survived lol
