Started reading a little bit about knives and it kind of stuck to me. Simply put, I need to get me a couple of knives.
Since I am a noob I need some guidance to avoid getting a crappy knife.
Seems tobe thousands of variants out there as well so you can probably also point me in the right direction when it comes to looks.
Of course I can reconsider the black blade preference if there are reasons to go for steel finish blade.
I assume there is no such thing as THE knife, but I am sure there are a few that are sort of must have or at least good, well known for their quiality, popuar knives.
Ha ha. Well I see now that I maybe should have worded it differently or used a comma.
So, here we go again:
Suggest a large, budget folding knife
Most of the knives suggested are about 20 cm long when unfolded.
I would like to have something bigger (but not huge).
Any suggestions on that apart from what dorpmuller suggested?
However I will probably also go for an Enlan EL01 and one of the Ganzo knives….they are so cheap anyway……
I agree that Enlan is a good buy, have an EL-02 and I am very happy with it. Unbelievable for the price, IMO.
Not sure what your budget is, cheap is obviously relative when high end folders can easily run in the hundreds. You may want to check out the Ontario RAT 1. It is consistently mentioned as a great value. AUS-8 steel, good fit & finish, comes in a black blade, and meets your size requirement. Can be had for around $30.
Another one that comes to mind is the Spyderco Resilience. Top notch quality, razor sharp out of the box, also over 20 cm. It does not appear to be offered in a black blade like it’s little brother, the Tenacious, though. Can be had for around $40 if you shop around.
+1 to the EL-01. I would rate the G704 as a close second, or a first if you want an axis lock and super thick blade. Both are really comfortable (at least in my hands)
The Inron MY803 would get a 3rd place mention from me. It is big and fairly solid, but lockup doesn’t extrude the level of confidence that the EL-01 and G704 does.
The Navy K631 is also pretty solid, but not sure if you are after that style, it’s more “tactical” and a spyderco ripoff. The EL-01 can serve as both “tactical” and heavy utility, it’s also a better value price wise
