Suggestion for a "sleeping light", a moonlight light by your bed while you sleep

I’m a bit of 1xAA moonlight mode collector, and have measure my lights with a DSLR. According to approximate price -

$20 ThuNite T10 XPG - 0.13 > 13 lms
$25 L3 Ill. L10, N219 - 0.03 > 2.5 lms
$45 Eagletac D25A Clicky XML (2012) - 0.3 > 2.5 lms
$55 Foursevens QP (or T)A XPG - 0.2 > 2.5 lms

Their all good and I’d be happy to buy another at their respective prices. I think the T10 is the best value though.

Also have a few Zebras, which are good lights, but I’m not a fan of the company policies and so don’t recommend them.

Sorry in my previous post, I say that the red LED on the EA1 is good for the night.
But I made a Runtime Test with eneloop, the result is disturbing, only 6 hours of Red LED.
I have already been contacted Nitecore, I hope their response

The Preon P0 with it’s full flood and Moonlight/Med modes is really good for this too. The magnet is useful if you have something magnetic (e.g. draw/cupboard handles) you could attach it to.

doingoutdoor had it for $17 a few days ago but I can’t find any of their 4sevens stock anymore for some reason.

Available in 3 or 4 mode:
1,3,30,120 Lumen
3,30,120 Lumen

Runs on (1) AA battery, either Alkaline or NiMh

$20

Meets your “runs all night” spec as well:
————————————————————————————
firefly(0.09lumens 147hours) -> Low (3 lumens, 30hrs ) -> Medium (30 lumens) —> High (120 lumens, 1.5hrs) -> (Tested with Ni-mh battery with actual capacity 2500mAh)
————————————————————————————

Damn, now I want one…

As others have already suggested, either a Preon P0 or an L3 Illumination L10. The former is convenient with the magnet, the latter is AA so will last longer.

Ups for more suggestions

Black shadow terminator and dont lock it out, see johnnymacs review for details J) 0:)

Hi gords, I already have the Black Shadow Terminator. I don’t really like the green colour of the “firefly mode”, and JohnnyMac has suggested that I could change it to a white LED, but this BST is so nice I don’t feel like tearing it apart.

While I don’t have a suggestion for an actual torch, or flashlight, I just want to suggest that rechargeable batteries, maybe NiMH, might save you money in this situation.

I have a couple of torches from LIDL, and they have low modes (although I reckon the low modes are more like 30 lumens than “firefly” or “moonlight” 0.x lumens) which I use to provide dim illumination all night, and NiMH rechargeables work out at virtually no cost in the long run

Mrs D looks HOT dancing at the foot of the bed in garters with the strobe going… Oh wait… You were talking a bout a light for sleeping….

Do not darken your room in night completely, light from outside will get in and you can see in the night.

A simple small LED from some device can light up the room, etc.

I don’t like these so I cover all LEDs of devices that I don’t turn off for the night, disconnecting power sources from the wall etc.
It’s enough light for me from these that they are annoying otherwise.

If you’re blind or not light sensitive, hey just light up one bright 5mm LED on full power and it lights up the room just fine. No need for some special stuff or moon mode flashlights.

You could just plug it into USB of your computer it has a standby USB power, 1 connector, 1 resitor, 1 LED.

Or use some rechargeable battery, if you like to recharge them once in a while and have a holder for one.

When my godson stays over, I usually set up a Zebralight SC80 on firefly mode for him. At something approaching two weeks of runtime on a single AA, it seems to be the near-perfect setup for this use.

Video, or it didn’t happen…

Oh snap, there’s something’s you shouldn’t need proof of :crown:

Our own little BLF mini from WWEFANS does 2%, on moon mode…

JackCY: Well yes light from outside can come in, but I still want to look for a suitable light. And I usually switch off devices, and the LEDs are too dim to make any difference.

501 sea: Yes, I’m planning to use rechargeable batteries.

Chicago X: Unfortunately, Zebralight SC80 is not really budget…

Flomotion: I just bought it, still waiting for its arrival.

All my new Nanjg builds have a moonlight mode, base on the luxdrv driver. Classic 18650 tube light is ideal. I'm building these for like $14-$15 in parts from FastTech, doing 760 lumens on high/turbo w/U3 and 2.8A Nanjg. Needs some tweaking to tailstand well though.

I can make a drop in with a .002 amp moonlight mode, it will run for over a month nonstop on a good 18650 even longer on a 26650 and it puts out enough light to see in a dark room with night vision adjusted eyes.

Unfortunately I have some strange illness that causes severe trembling in my hands so I can’t solder at the moment. If you want to PM me I can see if I have any spares I can part with. I can also sell you a driver with the custom 5 mode program if you are up to doing the mod yourself. The modes are .002 moon low, .09 low, .8 medium, 1.75 high, 3.55 turbo with memory and low voltage warning.

It’s very similar to a low candle light with a warm 7C tint XML.
