Supbeam X60 Group Buy - Interest and Discussion Thread - Dangerous problem discovered!

In depending on price

Hoorah for owning three Supbeams… I love it when people assume what I am thinking, feeling, emotions… I never said I was “butt hurt”… nope…
I personally think badly of Sup/Acebeam, you think they are great… GREAT!!! Glad you are ok with substandard quality. I don’t tolerate that business practice.
Should have never happened, that’s the bottom line. But I’m ok with your belief that companies are cool with knowingly sending out poor products and then a “my bad” makes it all good again.
I am simply posting here because there just might be “another buyer of higher standards” that didnt catch the crap that happened.
And my pants are down and I am livinloud 8)
Peace

Interested assuming price is good

Interested but final price dictate.

This isnt personal, but to dispel some concerns and lay it all out in the open for the benefit of others, Im going to explain a few things. It was their first experience with a GB and direct sales. Thanks to OL’s hard work, we all got a well negotiated killer deal on a incredible powerhouse light. Several examples had a finish mismatch on the anodized parts, which the company offered to correct at their great expense while also providing an additional gift light for your hassle to allow them to make good on their error. So, you ship the light back and they either refund your money or send you a brand new K50 light along with another small decent gift light. They pay shipping. With 8 complete discharge cycles on mine so far, I love my K50 and cant believe we got such a complete kit at the GB price. There is nothing at this price that compares to the overall package of what you get in the K50 GB kit, present or past. Same with the X40 GB and now the same with the X60 GB.

Nothing in this world is perfect, but its nice that when things do go wrong that a Chinese manufacturer will actually stand behind its product, even while at great expense to themselves to correct the problem. Sorry, but Im definitely in the crowd that appreciates this level of highly atypical service from across the pond.

Ive been in this game for a long time and this is me giving back to this forum in some small way. My X60 sample is on its way regardless so they paid me up front, and I doubt they are going to risk their company by not doing as they had promised. All eyes are here watching. Their management staff and owner are watching these threads and are in receipt of my (and our) direct communications and lengthy suggestions in how to help improve their product and are now in the production area cracking the whip and managing their people. I can tell you that they are very angry at themselves for the color mismatch on the K50 and are listening intently to all of our suggestions. When my X60 arrives, we will tear it apart together and go from there. If its crap, I’ll be the first one to say so, and tell you not to waste your money and take your babe out for a great night on the town. Acebeam knows this because I told them flat out that the success of their company is actually more hinged in these discounted products (because of a simple name change) rather than their present re-branded product line… and they darn well know it.

The careful execution of X40 GB is the product of lessons learned from the K50 GB. Subsequently, all the X40 lights were unpacked from their boxes and reinspected again before shipping to assure that the customer would get a superior product. The same is now being done with the X60.

This company is a massive large volume CNC mill with serious high end production potential. Now that they know who purchases a large volume of their products and tears the guts out of them to eek a few percent more performance from them, they will be following along with us with even more interest to gain an advantage over their competition. Lessons learned here trickle down to them, which improves the product and drives the technology forward. As a group of flashaholics and with our combined buying power, we rock like no other… but we all know that already.

If you want to see expensive crap fit for a scrap yard, go buy a new GM product, then go sit in their waiting room to have it serviced. If you’d really like to learn something, bring along your sleeping bag and hang out there for several days and tell me how many satisfied customers talk kindly about their new multi-thousand dollar investments, lack of service and denial of poor engineering that went into their product. I know because I own one, and so does my attorney, CPA and several others I know personally. Been there, done that. Then go by a Honda and repeat (which I have also done). Its like buying a Crapfire versus one of the BG lights I just mentioned.

I’ll step off my soap box now, and again this wasn’t personal. :8) Thanks for reading.

  • Bezel is aluminum.
  • The light is glued, however it is driven quite hard from the factory. I dont know how difficult it will be to disassemble. Perhaps someone can ask Vinh? Others at BLF already own this light so maybe they can chime in to help us. Im sure there are also enough determined mod crazed junkies on this forum that will open it even it the seams were TIG welded.

X40 bezel is also stainless. I think something was lost in translation, the S70 is all stainless. They probably just misunderstood your question. Looking through their website, I see lots of lights with stainless bezels.

You are correct, the X40 is SS and they misunderstood the translation. We just reconfirmed that the K50 and X60 are aluminum bezels. Its nice having a direct line of communication to these folks.

Definitely interested.

Mismatch colors again?

Too bad it’s glued as a de-dome would be nice to do.

I wonder if we’ll ever see this as a ‘factory’ option. No harm asking

You should ask Selfbuilt and get back to us. He’s a guy that I respect and have never know him to be a shill, so I would expect a detailed unbiased opinion from him. We will also examine the current production batch once I get my sample.

You’re right, there is no harm in asking and I will ask right now. Great idea!

My question: ” there are repeated concerns about the lights being glued. how difficult would it be to send all the X60 light unglued. even if it means taking them apart to break the glue connections.”

Nice, good luck with that!

My question: “ there are repeated concerns about the lights being glued. how difficult would it be to send all the X60 light unglued. even if it means taking them apart to break the glue connections.”

Ask them if they’ll do a de-dome option 8)

“I WANT ONE NOW!!

Interested for sure depending on final pricing. Thanks for setting this up FlashPilot!

Management was asked the question of providing lights where the glued joints were cracked open, but they decide against it for reasons of potential warranty issues and enforcement. Ah well. Just like my K50, Im sure I’ll be very happy with the stock light.

I don’t think this was a disaster!

I take one.
