High capacity AA batteries from Ansmann.

The discharge curves are normal for AA cells, the capacity is very high.


These cells are high capacity AA cells, but the price to pay for that is fast self discharge (How fast is rated in the data sheet\*).

At first glance I thought these might be good in a photographic application (high powered flash).
But when I checked the power curves i noticed they won’t maintain voltage as high as other brands. That means longer flash recycle times. Combine that with the fact that these aren’t LED and it’s not really suitable.

I have some of these that were used for powering an underwater photo strobe. They’ve deteriorated pretty rapidly, with the internal resistance going WAY up and capacity down. They don’t have enough performance to work in the strobe at all anymore and are only good for low draw applications. Self discharge is high.

You are better off with stock LSD Eneloops or the high cap version of similar cells. In a short time the Ansmann will be working far more poorly than a stock Eneloop.
