Got it 3 days ago and now that I have the right battery tray, popped in the same Orbtronics 3100s I used in the STL-V2 and to say that I am impressed with the amount of light I am getting might just be an understatement. I see now why this light has won a lot of hearts in its time. Whatever drivers Olight is using, they are beating the competition.
Been playing with it since this morning. The “wall test,” the outside test, and downtown city light pollution drown-out test all reveal this to be the brightest single-emitter light I own. Close seconds are the AK47 and X3, followed by the L4, the latter two being on copper, of course. They are very, very close, but the SR51 beats them. And despite the frosted reflector, the throw is outrageous. Combined with the amazing, bright-white-ness, this thing throws right with - or better than - anything I have (except for my de-domed SP03, of course). They are using some kind of buck driver in this, and the result is an amazingly pleasing and white beam with no ugly artifacts or unpleasant discolorations whatever.
To give you an idea of how bright this is, I first fired up my STL V2 since it was right next to me. It is running two efest batts. The purplish, well-defined hotspot stood out, but then I fired up the Olight—I had to check to see if the V2 was in low mode! And it wasn’t! Almost looked like I was comparing a Q5 to an XM-L! Not kidding!
The hotspot is hazy on the SR51, but you don’t lose too much throw. Just had it out around downtown Austin and it appears to light up better than anything yet. The closest contender thus far is the HD2010 with XM-L2 T6. I still love it, too. It is brighter than the V2 and is a contender for throwiest stock light.
The light was a bit heavier than I imagined, but isn’t bad at all in the weight department. I don’t care for the case, but I haven’t played with it much yet.
I see quite a few on epay for like $56-60, Is Olight finally wising up to lower prices, or is this particular model just being updated and cleared out of inventory?
Not bashing the brand, I think they are awesome and will be ordering this model very soon as it looks like a nice light that you can buy and Not have to mod and still have a killer piece.
Just wondering how long delivery time was and did it come with both battery carriers?
Of the ones I see cheap, they seem to come in the Eco (cardboard) box, which is fine for me as I do not keep my lights in the box.

It came in the cardboard box, but with Olight brandname and specs printed on it, and with everything it was supposed to have. BG just messed up and shipped the CR123 carrier instead of the 18650 carrier, but we are working it out now. Looks like this one is being cleared out, but not sure. They just started showing up on ebay for cheap prices. A few days ago, I saw no such deals.
As for BG shipping, it took 12 days—from order to my door. They have always been fast for me.
Did you get the carrier issue sorted out? I just received my SR-51 from BangGood and it came with the 18650 carrier instead of the 16340 carrier that I ordered. I had already purchased an 18650 carrier, so now I have 2 of those and no 16340. I just sent a note to BG about it, but I was wondering if they were able to make it right with you, and possibly offer to buy your extra 16340 carrier or trade for one of mine.

It hoses my best HD2010 which pulls 5 amps but only has the stock T6.
Anyway, love the beam, love the simple UI, it is just a great light with incredible build quality.

Yes, I sorta did. I would rather they have refunded me the full $9.81 I spent to get the 18650 holder here, but they did refund what they would have charged for it ad they did communicate fairly fast, so I just left it at that (with the $4.99 refund).
If you’d like to buy my 16340 carrier, just say the word and I’ll get it out to you Monday at only the cost to ship it.
Yep, it’ll dust anything old and most of the new stuff. Very well made with excellent UI and long-reaching beam. They must be driving it at least at 3.5 amps or more. It’s so bright white.
Just checked. Olight says they drive 4 amps to the emitter for XM-L2s. Hence, the nice output. As long as their prices keep reasonable, it may be a better choice to stay with mainline brands. I could get used to this level of good, consistent build quality combined with above par output.
