Shunned, stunned, something!

Does anyone know if all LED’s come in the same orientation in the tape? I had it in mind that the machine feed side of the tape, with all the little holes, was the negative side of the emitter. Built a quad X6 today with W2’s and went to a lot of troubleshooting to find out why it didn’t work… only to discover the emitters were backwards on the big Noctigon MCPCB! Wired it backwards and its fine. Aggravating stuff!

Different manufacturers probably orient them differently, but they’re going to be the same within each manufacturer, or at least with Nichia and Luminus based on the datasheets. Osram might just do it backwards, they tend to do LEDs their own way (considering the weird sizes they have, like 3737, 3030, 4040).

I swear I tested them on the board with a multimeter to make sure there wasn’t a short… typically the emitters will light dimly with the continuity circuit and I got that. I guess not at the main contacts for the wires though. (Sometimes when paste is used on the wire pads there will be flux on these that prevents the continuity test).

Always something when you’re forgetful!

4090 lumens on a freshly charged P28A 18650. I’ll take it.

Is there a potent 21500 Li-Ion cell?

What he said. Best to clean that off and put a little (a little!) grease around there. Doesn’t matter too much what kind. Some say not silicone. Some say only silicone. I say w/e as long as it’s just a little and not right in between the posts and the clamps.

You can also get these felt washers that drop onto the battery posts that are apparently treated with some chemical to prevent corrosion. Probably just something alkaline that soaks up and neutralizes acid vapor that leaks out. Never used them myself but they seem to work.

Don’t think so.

I know about cleaning and maintaining battery posts and cables. I have the stuff that is made to paint on the posts after they’re clean and my posts and cables don’t have a speck of corrosion on them. I hate that stuff. That’s why I was so disappointed to see the big white ball of corrosion on the hold-down strap. It’s a summer car and has been sitting in a snow bank all winter. I’ve started it up and charged it a few times. I suspect that the long slow discharge with occasional recharges probably exacerbates the corrosive venting. Glad summer is here…almost…kind of.

There is a 9a 22430.

Thanks Sk9, wanting to improve my DBC004 Titanium quad , it’s using an 18500. I can probably bore the tube for a 21 but not a 22. Ordered some new Efests as they seem to be the best easy solution.

Hard to say. Lead acid doesn’t really self discharge much below freezing. Not fast enough that it would need to be recharged during the winter if it was put away fully charged. Unless there’s a lot of parasitic drain.

But it doesn’t accept charge very well below freezing either. It could be that it wasn’t running long enough to replace the capacity it gave up starting the engine. Or it could be an old battery. Or a bunch of other things.

I had a jeep that used to sit for months.
I put a cheapo solar cell in the window, connected directly to the DC.
No charge controller. 14v - 16v? max output in full sun. Maybe 10w-15w max output.
Just enough to keep the battery topped off.
Not enough current to cook things.
Worked like a charm for years.

Use baking soda to get the crud off the strap. Get down to bare metal and give a coat of rust preventive paint. As long as it keeps the gas off the metal, should keep things looking nice.

Jeff

Continuing the discussion from The There Are No Stupid Questions Thread:

Desperation here…I lost my USB icon on me Lenovo laptop does anyone know hOw to get it back I’ve done everything the internet told me to and i still haven’t gotten it back…updated to window 11…if anyone can help I’ll buy the next round…thanks NK

So, did it vanish after the W11 update? Or before?
Do you get a noise when a device is plugged in?
And last, does the device show up under your computer - for a flash drive?
All the Best,
Jeff

What is the “USB Icon” and how did you originally get it? I am curious because I don’t think it is a default Icon in Win 11. At least, I have never seen it.

image

Did you create it yourself?

Its missing from the taskbar im trying to flash my light and i have nothing to drag the file to if thats even possible I’m not very good when it comes to computers

So you are trying to flash a ROM using one of the USB adapter thingies?
A USB icon won’t necessarily show up unless Windows recognizes the “thingy” as a USB Device.
You might open up Device Manager and see if you can find the “whatever” in there.
Might show up as an unknown device or something else.
If so, a device driver maybe needed.
You should post this question over in the Flashlight Modding & DYI section. It’s more likely you’ll find someone there who can help.
All the Best,
Jeff

Yes I’m using the usbasp flashing kit from hank/jlhawaii808 I’ll post something in mod section… thanks for the input Jeff much appreciated

You need ASPUSB to flash the driver. It works with your controller and the code gets written to the MCU.

Seems like I had grief getting everything to work together too, it’s been so long I don’t remember exactly what I had to do to get it working!

I don’t drag and drop anything, just click on the flash code line and let her rip. Funny, you get so used to just doing it but forget WHY!

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I had a DOS 5 (!) computer show up in the shop last year. (Where do these things keep hiding and working?)
The problem was something simple - software wise - I sat there and we had a stare down.
Me trying to remember something I could do in my sleep - way back when.
The PC giggling each time I got it wrong.
Eventually I managed to remember what I needed to do.
All the Best,
Jeff

Anybody ever successfully get rid of skunks without getting sprayed?

Actually get rid of, not just gently deter? Tried gun shot sounds, motion lights, predator and chemical smells, covered the gaps under the fence with buried chicken wire, but there’s parts of shared fences that can’t be completely blocked off.

The city started doing garbage collection every other week during covid and stuck with it, limit of 2 bags per household. The skunks have taken over. Also during covid the college a few miles away wasn’t doing classes so there were no students in the student houses, so no full pizzas left on the lawn every Saturday night for the wildlife. Theres been a Great Skunk Migration unlike any ever seen before

I’m was thinking of just a regular live trap inside a garbage bag, then I could just tie up the bag if there’s a skunk inside, poke an air hole, throw it in a rental truck or on the roof or something and drive it 20 miles out, but wonder if thatll even make a dent.

There’s no way to shoot them without them spraying either right? I won’t do anything that’s not humane like poison. The neighbours are trying everything. I’d kill them if itd make a dent, but only ever in a humane way. Never poison.
