What have people done with these? Any good suggestions?
I have seen a few attempts on putting them or similar stuff in smaller reflectors. The result is usually a not so nice donut… Id guess there is a reason why they are not that popular…
I put one in a zoomie yesterday (for testing). I now call it, the bug-eyed zoomie… very funny beam… Ill get around to do outdoor beamshots…
MCPCB are from LCK-LED if anybody should wonder. Id guess its quite useless compared to a single hard driven emitter on copper, but maybe someone have done some cool stuff that I have missed?
Damn, you’re one productive dude. I’m digging all the threads that you have been creating. Out of the box thinking and creating is seems to be your playground.
Been very productive lately, and used a lot of time and energy on flashlights… I cant keep this pace for long… There will probably be less stuff from me in the future… I have other stuff going on too that I have put on hold due to flashlights. Need to catch up on other things. 0:)
I always think that when Old-Lumens have finished a larger project, that, oh… Now he is at it again. Where does he get the energy and ideas from? And he and others are doing really time consuming stuff!

Its usually the larger projects and stuff that takes time… Emitter swaps and such smaller things are quite straight forward. They are like changing the tire on a car.
Does not require much thinking once you have it going. No matter what people do. Building hosts, swapping an emitter or whatever. Its always nice to see, so I try to share some of my stuff too. Even if its not always that good…
3/4 months ago I knew nothing when it came to modding… Now I am starting to get the hang of SOME stuff, still a noob compared to many others here. Which I always will be when it comes to electronics…
I found your mcpcb on the lck-led site. To bad they dont offer a 2-up XML version like that. I could use them for all my outdoor spotlights that Id like to mod from all the XML pulls that Ive accumulated.
Just stick them on, works fine. I scraped away the dielectric under the outer half of the middle pads so it has a thicker than normal solder layer, but I've run it at 6+ amps and no ill effects, I suspect that's harder than you'd want to push it in a fixed floodlight setup.

I assembled a half useless funny bug eyed zoome, and you made a LOLlight. Maybe that says something?
Yeah, it's nearly useless. Great for really only one single thing, that is, lighting up an entire room without having to bother with aiming it anywhere at all. It's about like a slightly better focused mule. Gets too hot too quick to be usable though, it's just a toy.
Thanks comfychair! I had forgotten that you can mount a pair of XML’s to a single star. Carving through some dialectric first is something I probably wouldnt have considered. I do have some 20mm sinkpads as well.
I just ordered some resistors to try out relic’s resistor mod before I commit to the conversion. (I have 7 of these lights)
Its unfair to compare with a big light. But T13, slightly above 3A to the emitter, XM-L2 U2 on Sinkpad. Basically, not much more current, but so much more brighter.
Not so unique though… The the dual zoome kinda makes you smile… But at the same time… When you want to zoom, the eyes can only focus properly on one of the beams. So its fairly useless compared to a proper light…
