This sucks. My Xtar WK41 is dead!?!?

My daily go-to flashlight won’t turn on  . I have become quite attached to this little 14500 light and take it on every morning dogwalk. I like the low modes, but can light up the street when needed on high.

So this evening I take my dog for a quick night walk and realize my WK41 won’t come on. I try another fresh 14500 cell and it still won’t work. The pill is held inside by 2 screws so it doesn’t seem like the pill has come loose.

Anything to try? Pill held fast by 2 screws so isn’t loose. The clickie seems to feel just fine.

I have had trouble with certain batteries not making contact on the + end—also mine locks out sometimes—I have to click—hold or whatever I can do to make it come on

Thanks. My batteries seem like they have a good postiive button and there is no looseness once I insert the battery. And I fiddled with the button a dozen ways and it never comes on.

remove the tailcap and touch -B to the body tube with a paperclip or piece of wire. Does it light up or not?

This light does not have a tail cap. But I removed the head and get 4.1v across the cell and the body so assume the spring is making good contact.

Do we have a way to search membership list here? I thought we had a Xtar rep that I might contact.

Wife just came clean and admitted she accidentally ran my my WK41 through the washing machine. It was supposed to be waterproof

QUOTE “Wife just came clean /\ INSERT RIMSHOT HERE /\ and admitted she accidentally ran my my WK41 through the washing machine. It was supposed to be waterproof Big Smile”

There fixed it for ya

It does not be the water in the light,
when I washed my I Phone 4s it was completely shattered by the mechanical forces in the washing machine

NOTHING is water*PROOF*. Water will find its way into anything, under the right conditions. A washing machine cycle is one of the most dynamic water-exposure environments. When you think about the temperatures, time duration exposure, dynamic and impact forces involved… in addition to the water itself.

The most powerful to get any equipment fail its water proofness are temperature changes as it adds pressure

The worst about washing machines ne is that its not fresh water, which would be no good conductor
The water in a washing machine is highly corrosive to lead free solder, from what I have seen in my Iphone

Sorry for your loss. On the plus side, now you can guilt-trip her into letting you buy something else.

Also, glad to hear it wasn’t a quality issue with Xtar. I rather like that company. A while back, I scored a few WK42’s for like $9 as they were on close out at xtardirect. For $9, it was really hard to pass up so naturally I got 2. Oh, if you’re into headlamps, a guy on eBay is selling X1’s for like $24 delivered in the states.

Wonder if a fresh water flush and dry will resurrect your light? Best wishes.

^x2 on the flush and dry.

Strip it down and wash/brush all the parts with alcohol and you might get lucky (the light, not your wife)

Many, many years ago I washed a gen 1 Maratac AAA. It was only a few months old and cost quite a lot after shipping and everything to get it delivered to Aus, thankfully there wasn’t a sign of moisture inside. Except for a slight residue on the inside of the lens that developed in the last year or so it still works fine to this day, oh and the horrible pwm but that has always been there :weary:
