Thank you for the review. I just received mine, and tested it out briefly last night.
The S70S is really bright, and I really like it, but I think I still prefer the L6. The L6 appears to have slightly more spill (at relatively close range in my backyard), and I think I will miss the lack of momentary on the S70S. Others may not miss this at all. My biggest gripe though, is that the S70S feels unbalanced to me, in that all of the weight is in the head. I don’t feel this as much in the L6.
On the plus side, the S70S didn’t seem to get hot as quickly as my L6. All in all, you can’t go wrong with the S70S. For the price it’s been going for, it is a steal! I just can’t believe how much flashlight you get for the money with these things.
1. No, to my knowledge you cannot. The rear switch just turns it on, and then the side button is used to change modes. You have to leave it in turbo when you turn it off and then the mode memory will bring you back to turbo next time you turn it on.
2. Yes, you do a half press on the rear switch for momentary on the L6. When you let off the switch the light will turn off. You can keep doing half presses and it will turn on and off.
3. I only tested mine briefly, but I’m going to say no. Again, it used mode memory like the L6. The side button turns green, but that is the only indicator. You can however, hold down the side button (after the rear switch has been turned on) and it will start in moonlight mode. I will note that the button turns orange as well, but I’m guessing this indicates overheating or turbo step down?
About the balance, I don’t have an L6 so I can’t say, but this S70S seems very well balanced to me. Especially where you hold the light with your thumb on the button.
Regarding the side switch, I got confused because the button turned orange on me, and then when I shut it off for a few seconds and turned it back on, it turned green again. When I took the batteries out they I measured 3.88v. I didn’t find anything in the instructions about this, but I was tired, so who knows. I may have to revisit some reviews to see what is going on.
The whole balance thing is purely subjective. It’s probably something you won’t notice unless you have been using an L6 for a while.
By turning the light off the cells will “bounce back” on the voltage which is why the cell status light was showing orange then when you turned it back on it was green & hence your voltage reading.
The side switch shows green for fully charged cells, then orange, then red which is the time to think about recharging the cells.
Oh, that makes sense. I’ll have to test it more, but it seem like it will probably spend the majority of time on orange, when using it for extended periods? I like the glowing green color better.

I have an S70S & have had the original S70 (which has the same cell status indicator light) for over a year now.

Also, if you are using lower amp cells like many 5200mAh cells, you can tend to get more voltage sag than using a higher continuous amp cell. Generally the 4200mAh cells will have a considerable higher continuous amp rating than the 5200mAh cells, thus, less voltage sag. I think these lights pull a fair amount
Yes, I have a matched set of Samsung 30Q button tops that work fine. Basically a solid 15A cell, but the capacity is 3000mAh or less. What type of 18650’s do you have?
Good quality 18650”s will work fine in it (30Q”s, GA”s etc), but good 26650”s like the Liitokala 26650 are best.
It is a bit heavier than say a Convoy L6, about 100g/4oz iirc, but I think this helps it handle the heat produced a little better.
I think the most powerful I have are some 6A NCR cells but this light draws 5a in turbo so theoretically the cells should be fine for a few mins of turbo run time?
That does look good but where can you get an X9(350g weight with no cells) for the $40 an Thorfire S70s(590g weight with no cells) can often be bought for?
