Thrunite TN31, who still has one?

Kind of sad last night, sold two of my TN31’s. Had three, one CW, one NW, and one Tom E modified. Sold the CW and Tom E. The once King of Throw has lost some of it’s luster. Back when it was King it really didn’t have much competition and thousands were sold over the years. Now big throwers and newer emitters are rampant but pretty sure none will meets the sales of the legendary TN31.

Edit: Would probably never have sold them if it were not one of my good friends wanting the best throwers I would sell him. He has given me exceptional deals on motorcycles over the years and could not hook him up with any junk.

Never owned one, but the TN31 does have a special place in my heart.

Still have mine. Put a de-domed SST 40 in it a while back.

I have nothing but good things to say about this light;

–500+ KCD
–2100+ lumens
-smaller than most other lights in its class
-fit and finish is superb
-UI is about as straightforward as you can get

Due to the size, and form factor it is easy to carry a long way, if necessary. Awesome light!

Forgot to mention the driver has the typical sense resistor bypass.

Yep… I remember when those first came out. I think they can still hold their own given the size factor. There is always a trade-off for performance. In thrower-land, lux comes at the price of size/weight and/or optical complexity / cost. IIRC those came with XML-U2 emitters. It would be cool to see what one could do with one of todays XPL emitters. Its still about a 75mm diameter reflector, slightly larger than a Convoy L2. Thats pretty much my maximum tolerable size. I can still put that in a coat pocket or my backpack side compartment. IMHO, tighter it throws the less generally useful it is…. and the more single-use, purpose built it starts to become.

Still have one and after seeing this thread had to look up when I bought it, June 2012. I was definitely enamored with the TN31 back then, just like I have been with my new Thrunite TC20 for the last week. They still make some great lights.

I never had a TN31, but have many other legends from the past, a TN30, Tom-E BTU SuperShocker, several Defiant DSTs, original first edition of the SkyRay King, SmallSun TY-T08s, and many more popular standard-setting flashlights that we seen come & go on BLF. I may sell some of them off.

Still have mine resistor modded and with a SST40 led, still relevant and very powerful without being too big compared to the K70 and the GT

I remember the TN31 as one of the better-looking, well-proportioned head-to-tube ratio lights ever made and plenty of throw in its stock version.

I remember during its ‘dying’ last months in production that they were offered at a very attractive discount from Thrunite themselves and attempted to order but now I cannot remember why I haven’t actually ordered one.

Edit: Now I remember why I haven’t ordered one: It was during the time that saabluster was offering his modded TN31MB to the public that I even already made a partial payment…then before my unit was ready for delivery, he came out with the aspheric Deft X (a Supbeam K40, now Acebeam) host that made me pay for the price difference and go for the latter.

Yes, discounted first to $100 then to $80, they were steals at that price. Hanging on to my last one just as others have mentioned because of the throw in a smaller package than newer lights. Also like the selector ring and no parasitic drain when tail switch is turned off.

I never owned a TN31. Mostly because of the (IMHO) blurry comparisons made with the TN30. And then came the TN32. The reviews were great and it was love at first sight. And I love the UI with the ring and the fabulous quality. I don’t take it out of the case as often as I used to, but I don’t think I will ever sell it.

Old Thread Revival! But I just wanted to share that I finished modifying yet again my 7 year old Thrunite TN31 with the latest SST-40 N5 bin, with the sense resistors bypassed is as bright now as the K70, damn good light! Still going to keep it since it can be upgraded to the latest emitters…

Not a tn31, but I still have a tn32 that was modded by vinh with an xpg2 dedome and a resistor stack. It was one of my favorite medium large lights that went over 500k CD. It quit working a while back, got a feeling the driver died which sucks b/c while it can be modded with a different driver, I liked the u/I. O well.

I really like the brass ‘pill’ and how smooth the handle screws on because of the brass threads. Maybe I’ll throw a cft 90 in it if I can figure out a driver setup that can do the amps.

TN31 was super. I still have a stock TN32 UT you can have for a knockout price if you want.

You could get a K40 driver from Acebeam if you email them

I’ve still got my TN31 that I bought back in 2013 and paid $165USD for!!

I bridged the resistors and did some beam tuning on it and it’s got one of the older de-domed XM-L2 emitters that could take a ton of current. It’s a great light that I can’t see myself getting rid of, same as my TN35.
