Thrunite TS1 Survival Light

The Thrunite TS1 Survival Light is a new 18650 lantern / portable battery bank. Thrunite previously had the TS2 which is the larger version of this that featured a 21700 battery. This new TS1 is more compact as it features an 18650 battery. This lantern uses four warm white LEDs under the small plastic dome. The beam profile is all flood thanks to the nicely diffused plastic cap above the LEDs. Included in the package is a 3400 mah 18650 battery, magnetic hook attachment, and a three way USB charging cable.

The lantern basically consists of the battery, which is surrounded by a plastic case. The lantern dome sits on top of the battery and plugs into the USB-C port on the side of the battery. The battery is held in the case with magnets. The light is rechargeable via the included USB-C cable. Besides using the light as a small portable lanyard, the TS1 can be used as a portable battery bank to charge other devices. To do so, you plug the USB C cable into the battery and plug the other end into your device. The other end of the cable includes Micro USB, USB C, and an IPhone connector. There are 4 small indicators on top of the battery to indicate the battery status.

The base of the lantern is magnetic and can hold itself upside and horizontal. Also included is a hook which magnetically attaches to the base of the light. This is helpful if you want to hang the lantern from a non-magnetic surface. The switch is made from plastic and is located on the side of the dome.

The UI is very simple. A single press turns the light onto low, if you long press it cycles between low, medium, and high. There is a no mode memory so a single press will always be low mode. A double press activates SOS mode. Low mode is rated for 4 lumens with a runtime of 120 hours. Medium mode is rated for 35 lumens for 20 hours. High mode is rated at 100 lumens for 8 hours. The Thrunite TS1 survival light is a simple, compact lantern that can be easily used to charge other USB devices on the go.

Things I like:

  • Warm white emitter
  • Included hook and magnetic tail
  • Long runtimes
  • Three way charging cable

Things I don’t like:

  • In order to charge/discharge, the plastic case and lantern dome needs to be removed

Frankly a survival light should have more battery capacity, not less, hence being 18650 over 21700 is not an improvement.
