there are bunches of different ones, the above is just an example.
I still consider myself a newb with modding, and struggle with some things, like soldering leads onto emitter boards, but in just a few days, I’ve found this to be very helpful, so I’m passing this along. So far, I’ve used this for:
Holding leads that I solder onto emitter PCBs
Clamping leads in place while I solder them onto emitter PCBs
Shorting across an SMD resistor to test a resistor mod (thanks for the suggestion, comfychair!)
I’ve been using in place of the tweezers I normally used, but the slightly knurled tip and the locking makes things a lot easier, in general.
I don't have any locking tweezers, but I have found regular tweezers are very useful in taking apart flashlights. I may have to try some of these locking ones.
I wouldn’t think the locking ones would be good for unscrewing pills like that. I use regular tweezers for that, or a spanner wrench, but these are for a bunch of other uses.
That’s a great tip. Those things are so handy just like Ohaya pointed out. I also use one to rest a pill on when the driver spring is in the way of letting it sit flat. Just put the spring part between the handles.
That’s a great idea! I’ve been just putting it between the jaws of a small pair of pliers, but it keeps tipping over. Your suggestion works much better ;)!!
Not bad. I admit I like the look of it. But I prefer regular tweezers in “working” certain stuff. I’m used to it that’s. But then again, I would like to “practice” that locking tweezer.
I think that, as usually the case, each tool has its best use. I was just surprised when I found this, and how many things it makes easier to do. Not that it replaces all other tools, or even all similar tools, but this is just really good for some things…
EDIT: For example, the holding the leads thing: I’ve been using regular tweezers for that, but that makes me concentrate on squeezing the tweezers with my left hand while soldering with my right hand. With this, I just grab the lead, and position it then solder. Much easier, for me, at least.
Interesting, I’ve been using regular tweezers and rubberbanded pliers (and a planner wrench). Since I just started soldering, its good to hear of tips and shortcuts.
In fact, someone should start a soldering thread that lists such information….ahem.
Btw, how does that thing actually lock/unlock? Do you sorta push it down and outward much like a hemostat?
