tn42vn beamshots

this light is really impressive as most of you probably know
dont post much here, but have been trying my hand at a few beamshots in the past week or so
thought id put a few up
water tower is 620 meters

control shot

same 70mm focal length

full zoom on lens, at 300 mm

sry pics ended up so big
ill try and resize next time

We need to compare that to original TN42, otherwise nothing to be excited about.

if you send me a stock42, ill re shoot it :stuck_out_tongue:
there wont be a whole lot of diff, it is pretty pushed in stock form
this is the nw version

Barely even 100k lux more than stock, so only a few hundred more meters.
Not very amazing mod imo…

yep thats about right
ive tested mine at various distances, and it comes out about 790kcd every time
most stock lights are coming in between 650kcd, to 700kcd, from what i can gather
man , rough crowd :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, that’s still great for a flashlight that does over 2k lumens.
A XP-L HI or XP-G2 would get higher lux but less lumens.
Unfortunately I care more about lux than lumens

ya, i actually just made a lumen box out of a cooler, and am fine tuning it
so far the tn42 has come in around 2450 lumens in my tests

It’s still good no matter what! Big lumens, big beam! Is the carrier still 2S2P or did Vinh make it 4S?

2S2P im thinking
it shows like 8.4 volts on the battery carrier fully charged
i think this light could be pushed a tad further, as it takes several minutes to even get warm
my tn40vn on the other hand, gets smokin hot on turbo, after only 3 minutes or so

Huh, resistor modded the stock driver, upped the awg on the leads, shaved the centering ring, free floated the mcpcb.

Just curious, much are these going for if you don’t mind saying?

It’s funny—I post on Vinh’s Lounge forum about a modded TN42 from this forum—-it was a older XP-G2 running at 6 amps—the light hit 1,000,000lux— I was brushed aside and downplayed that the light of this size with a XP-G2 was irrelivant—Low and behold a couple of days later he has one for sale——only hit a little over 800,000lux—go figure

yeah, im amazed this light doesnt get any more press than it does
mine is right at 800kcd, and it shocks me still, sometimes when i fire it up
not alot than can tough it right now, in its class
them guys over there on the lounge have caught flood fever i think, with the new 100,000 lumen monster
and have kicked the throwers to the curb :person_facepalming:

I bought a stock TN42 with a code——this light is too nice and perfect on the reflector(no dust) to mess with for minimal gains—yeah bigger brighter lights with massive cost—I just can’t see paying that much for lights— I have several of Vinh’s lights but I’m into building my own lately with longer run times

an extra 500 lumens, and another 120 k-lux, was worth it to me.
at the time i wanted one, everybody was out of stock.
especially on the NW version i wanted
to each their own i guess
post up some beam shots sometime when you get a chance

Thanks for the test! :sunglasses:

I have 14 Vinh lights. My TK61vn V4[tested @ 770Kcd] is very close to the TN42vn in LUX NUMBERS.

My only too bad is,too bad you do not have a place like I have! I have a cell tower[disguised flag pole version that is NOT lit up] that I can test anywhere from 1300 yards to 1 mile and 150 yards! :+1: After that I run out of room! It is up on a big hill on a Golf course w/ the tower in the Valley.

That is what is happening now w/ the manufacturers catching up w/ the de domed/HI LEDS.

Every Vinh light I have[14] has double or triple the LUX as the stock light, with some 4x more like my Tk61vn V4[770Kcd]. iirc stock is 170Kcd! MODS are worth it to me,hell my M2Xvn and U21vn are 90Kcd+ more than the stock TK61!!

you should post some beamshots

Now that’s impressive, the TK61 is really crappy for it’s size. The TN42 is almost the same and waaaay better. Technology has come a long way

He even said in one of his videos that all he cares about is lumens lumens lumens.
There are people that pay more than half a grand for his lights just because he made them, not because they need those lights or anything.
Doing more lumens is easy. Doing more candlepower isn’t.
