This guy does a pretty good review of it here….I personally went with the coyote tan and may order the black or olive drab next. Not a hunter so the camo doesn’t fit too well in my day to day.
It proved durable and water resistant during my last hammock camping outing.
Pockets everywhere for gear,…lights,…knives,…phones,…keys…“tacticool” patches (Milspec Monkey and US Flag here).
Any reason to believe the cheaper one from a different vendor is just as high quality?
EDIT: sorry, didn’t see you already got one. So the one you link to is the one you purchased?
good point,…yeah, the canted front pockets take some getting used to.
I would prefer traditional pocket lay out….but its not a deal killer in my book.
The upper pockets are really handy to hold an ipod and head phones.
I keep a pair of under armour gloves in my back side pockets and don’t even know they are there until I need them.
The inside pockets are pretty standard…hold your pens, phone and/or sunglasses.
One feature I really like is the options for the hoodie…either rolled up tight until it rains…or its pretty cool just hanging out freely as well.
And when it gets really cold , nasty or rainy….you can zip the front side all the way up above your chin…that and along with the hoodie synched down to really keep a good part of your lower face and noggin well protected and warm.
This is the only jacket I own that has a place for velcro patches……just adds a fun cool factor element.
Thanks for the info, fellow Texan. I wear medium also but will read up on the reviews too. Not sure if I even need this since it rarely gets cold enough for me to wear a jacket like this during the winter.
And on closer examination it looks like there are different versions/models TAD 4.0,…TAD 5.0,…TAD 6.0 now.
I bought the original 4.0, (maybe why that’s why its half the price of some) of the newer models?
…looks like his review is on the 5.0.
Slightly different fit/finish,…pocket arrangement…but I am no TAD pro, so there maybe other features that justify the higher price on the later models….or they may just be trying to close out the 4.0s….
I think mine, the 4.0 may technically be a soft shell and the 5.0 is a true hard shell and even more water resistant?
I think of the TAD Ranger Fleece as a soft shell, and mine performed pretty well in the rain….but I dunno
Just an FYI, Rothco/Condor has the same “clone” jacket(known as the Condor Summit and Rothco Special Ops), and if you’re lucky you can find them state side(for those in the US looking) for the same price as some of the Chinese retailers sell them…so you can get them quicker than the slow boat from China. I’m watching one now on Ebay for $45…and have seen them go used worn once for less than that…usually due to someone ordering the wrong size.
Glad to hear that because the link that you bought from had sizing information … I varied from the low side of M to XXXL depending on which measurement you looked at. Nice to hear the sizing is at least close to comparable.
