Hi everyone,
I’m excited to have received my first ever modded light from a BLF community member, Kyfishguy!
It is awesomely bright, I dare say on a biblical level.
I recently purchased a micro Maglite triple Cree “Black XP-G3 S5 3C Frosted Narrow” for $60, probably the best $60 dollars I’ve ever spent.
I work for a Law Enforcement Agency (name withheld as we’re not popular these days), and at shift change, we’ll decompress by comparing lumens of our flashlights. Which is what prompted me to search for a powerful, yet small single cell torch.
I’ve attached pictures for reference! We are issued, Mini Maglites with incandescent bulbs… as our dim lit “keep on person light,” is only ever used to find our way to a squad torch, or the torches wall mounted inside the department.
Because of this, we’re encouraged to buy our own.
I first tried replacing the incandescent bulb with an LED bulb in my mini mag. I used a TerraLUX TLE-5EX MiniStar2 LED for Mini Maglite x2 AA. I was way brighter than I expected, almost blinding in the event of direct eye contact.
Second light I picked up was an Astrolux S1 CREE XPL that used a 123 Battery. This light put the mag to shame… I had no idea something could be so bright… but I still liked the feel of the Maglite mini.
the Triple Cree Mini/Micro Mag that Kyfishguy built was the best of both worlds, and it’s damn bright. Glancing into the TerraLUX TLE-5EX LED causes a knee jerk reaction to shut your eyes and look away, based on the pictures, you can only imagine how bright Ky’s modded Micro Mag is…
Top shot from left to right, same order.

Overall I’m happy. Best single cell 14500 Torch I’ve ever come across. If you ever get the chance to snatch one of these little guys, do it! they’re awesome!
